i designed the site using dreamweaver and when i checked it using ie7, it showed up good... also on firefox... but when i checked it using ie5, the site is not showing up properly. also, when i changed the links, the browser doesn't open up the new links, it still opens the old one. why is that? Crying or Very sad

Did you check the site using IE6? Almost all of your users will be using IE6 or 7 or Firefox.

IE6 will take some tweaking of your code to display properly. IE5? I wouldn't even bother but if you must design for it, you have your work cut out for you. If you're using CSS, try using a different style sheet for IE5 and probably 6. I use 2 - one for Firefox and IE7 and one for IE6.

You might need to clear your cache to see the updated pages.

A lot of times, sites that work properly in IE 6 or IE 7 wont work properly due to differences between the browsers and what they can support.

Very few users are using IE 5 these days.

Generally for my sites I check in IE 6, IE 7, Firefox, AOL

You are right Troy. I also think very-very few-few users are using the IE5. If anyone open your site that means he/she have internet connection, internet connection means he/she always keep their PC updated. That means nobody have IE5.

I was reading an article this morning, and it was talking about how a lot of business users are still using IE 5 on intranets, as their internal pages havent been updated to work with new browser versions, and as more and more of these intranets are given access out the internet for email and research, theres been an increase in users using IE 5.

These guys cant update their IE usually because the intranet sites quit working correctly.

Kinda depressing.

If you validate your code it will be more likely to work on different platforms.

You can validate HTML and XHTML here:

http://validator.w3.org/

There is a broken link checker and a CSS validator on the site.

Some of your users are using their cell phone and PDAs.  Sites that validate are more likely to display properly for mobile users.

I hope to god that nobody still uses IE6 or worse 5.  IE 7 was bad enough, and 8 is a slight improvement due to security and script additions, but 5&6?
