Hello fellas,
I'm new to web building/design etc.. I'm surprised I have got this far.. I'm basically building a e-commerce site.. I chose to install Zen Cart.. Now before hand I had loaded homepage onto the server.. Now that I installed ZEN cart.. I can go to the admin section.. but I have two questions.. How do I see the Zen cart on the web site.. as when I type in my URL I just get my homepage.. I guess I need to delete it ot link to the zencart?
?and the second question where/how do I modify Zen cart.. say for banners, pics and such??
I am sorry for the rant, but this has been a very frustrating three days..

Zen Cart is a big messy system. Excellent at what it does, but not exactly well laid out in terms of code. I would recommend you check out the Zen Cart website and see the tutorials to get you started.

Is Zencart installed under public_html or a subfolder? If it is under public_html, you will need to delete or rename the other index page to have index.php come up instead or you can change the order the server looks for index pages with a .htaccess directive such as this:
DirectoryIndex index.php index.htm index.html

I'm more noob than what you may think i am...
I understand the part that zencart would have installed itself with the index.htm homepage.. but since I had my homemade one there it didn't? I think the best thing to do is to delete everything and start all over again.. which brings up another question on how to do that...
I don't now where zencart got installed.. I know that there is alot more folders now viewing the website through kompozer's site manager... can you edit files and folders though kompozers site manager??..

Zen cart would have installed
index.php
as its entry point. If you installed it into the root directory (
public_html/
), it will not show up automatically unless you get rid of
index.html
and
index.htm
. Those two index files are looked for (and run) before the server looks for
index.php
. I'm not fond of changing the
DirectoryIndex
search order, especially if you're a complete Noob, but it can be done.
I would suggest reinstalling your cart into its own subdirectory (
public_html/store/
) just to keep this major subsystem cleanly isolated so that it doesn't stomp on other subsystems' toes (or get its own stomped on). If it's the only thing on your site (for now), you can put a redirection in your root directory to automatically bring visitors to the store. In the future, you'll have a clean base to install blogs, discussion boards, galleries, etc., with your own Home Page with links to the subsystems.
I would not try to use Komposer's site manager to try to work with your site. Use cPanel > File Manager and/or a good FTP client.

Understood.. I have un-installed zencart and reinstalled it into /zencart.. So now it looks like all in need is a link between my homepage and the zencart..
I have also played around using SmartFTP.. I see how much easier and better it is than site manger.. I'm gonna try linking them today and then learn how to use zencart.. its not as user/noob friendly as I thought.. I thought it had more common terms..like banner editor or header editor.. I guess it just has a learning curve..
Is there a book at say Barnes and Noble about zencart? besides the one they are selling on zencarts website.. I would like to see it in person...

bn.com does sell a book on Zen Cart. Get the title and then drop by your local B & N to see if it's on the shelf.
You might also read the reviews and sample a page or two on amazon.com.

This book might be useful if you are a beginner:
http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Cart-Building-Online-Store/dp/141206645X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213858544&sr=8-1
The one I have is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/e-Start-Your-Web-Store-Cart/dp/B000UC42PW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213858544&sr=8-2
The Goh Koon Hoek book is pretty good. Read the user comments about each book.
