I want to set up an a shop where multiple sellers log in, upload their products (images, details, cost) and sell with me charging them a fee for providing the hosting services. Does AgoraCart or any of the others do this?

Thanks,

With zen-cart you would have to add them with admin status, probably pretty much the same with other shopping carts. If they have admin status, they should be able to do this. Of course, they would also be able to do things which just might mess up the store too. So, if you go that route, some training might be involved.

I don't think any of the shopping carts will allow you to charge a fee for this privilege. That would probably need to be setup separately. I haven't a clue how you would go about that.

I'd be very careful about granting full administrative privileges to your store to other people. There's no telling what they'll do, either by accident or malice. The ideal would be to have "limited admin privileges" you could grant to others, so they could maintain their own merchandise data and inventories, but not be able to meddle with the overall store structure or other people's merchandise. Each item would be tagged with the ID of the seller, but the customer would not see any of this. It would then be a simple matter to charge a fee (commission) on each article. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any shopping cart system having this built in. You'll have to go on to their forums and look around (and ask, if no one has brought up the matter before). Fantastico has a pointer to the community forums for each shopping cart it supports. Many stores have lots of "mods" or "add ons" already written -- perhaps one already exists, or someone looking for a project will be willing to pick up the ball and run with it.

If you find any such information, please post it here. It would be of interest to anyone selling on commission, or setting up a "mini mall" or "department store" with a common shopping cart and checkout. It would also be great to customize the appearance of the store (colors, graphics, etc.) based on merchandise "department" and/or seller ID.
