Hi all,

I've searched this topic & read all threads related & implemented the help I found in them, to no avail.

I have added the line, "register_globals = On" to my php.ini file in my public.html file (which was created when I installed my osCommerce, however my osCommerce was not installed into my public.html root but into a subdomain folder - funny thing tho it didn't create a catalog folder). Anyway, it did create an .htaccess folder in my osCommerce stuff, BUT, I don't know where to add that other line, "suPHP_ConfigPath /home/brenn4/public_html/dingleberrycandleco/php.ini". Does it go into my public.html .htaccess file or the .htaccess file where my osCommerce files are? Also, do I put the register_globals=on php.ini file in public.html or where my osCommerce files are? If it goes where my commerce files are, do I delete the one in my public.html?

At any rate, I have tried all options & tried logging into my admin & none work. I'm pulling my hair out over this. Palalalalaleeeeze hep me hep me!

You should be able to put the php.ini file just about anywhere, so long as the suPHP_ConfigPath entry points to it correctly. Do not include "/php.ini" in the entry -- all you want is the path to the file.

It should work in either public_html/.htaccess or public_html/dingleberrycancleco/.htaccess -- your choice depends on whether you have multiple php.ini files around your site (for different subdomains, etc.) or just one common one.

The latest version of osCommerce (2.2 RC1) supposedly no longer requires that register globals be turned on. I don't think it's in Fantastico -- you have to manually download and install it from the osCommerce site.

Ok, I'm still not clear.

Will I be ok if I put the "register_globals = On" in my php.ini file in my subfolder where my oscommerce files reside, AND put the suPHP_ConfigPath line in the .htaccess file that also resides in the subfolder where my oscommerce files reside, or does the suPHP line have to go in my public.html .htaccess file?

I downloaded it from Fantastico & it says version 2.2 MS2 with BuySAFE. is that not the latest? If not then I'm not going to hassle with it cuz this is getting too complicated.

If the osCommerce site is the only one that you want the php.ini settings to affect, then sure, it should be OK to put it in public_html/dingleberrycandleco/php.ini and the suPHP_ConfigPath line in public_html/dingleberrycandelco/.htaccess. If you wanted the settings to be global across all your sites (primary, subdomains, add-ons), you'd put both in public_html/. The rules for setting interactions get quite complicated if you have php.ini and .htaccess in both places (i.e., I don't understand them).

The Fantastico version of osCommerce is a step or two behind the latest and greatest osCommerce from the developers. It is 2.2 MileStone 2, while the latest developer release is 2.2 Release Candidate 1. Fantastico, for some reason, decided to force the BuySAFE option on us, while it remains optional for the base product. You can certainly safely run the Fantastico version (I think activating BuySAFE is optional), but it will require the register_globals = On setting, while RC1 supposedly doesn't.

I actually decided to uninstall the Fantastico version & install the latest version from osCommerce's site, & it's running fine now. Thank you kindly for your help! This forum is great.  Smiling
