Posted this info on the OSCommerce site, haven't gotten any answers for a while.

I have installed Paypal IPN, went live with the site to test, and it is almost all working. Payment was received, notification of payment was sent to the buyer's account. What didn't happen: the order status didn't change, and an encrypted DL code wasn't sent to the buyer.

Also, tax: will paypal calculate the local tax of the purchaser?

Can someone please help me get this last bit working, I need to get this site up and running.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Todd

More info: I am trying to sell downloadable content(I.E. video tutorials, files and other things of that nature). In order to have customers be able to DL content as quickly as possible I need for paypal IPN to send them an automated code upon approval of their payment as well as change the order status to enable the DL. I need for this to work so that there is no delay in the process. I have everything else working properly, but would like to not have to manually change the purchase status so that customers get a quicker experience.

Hope this info is helpful in finding a solution, I am at a standstill with this.

Thanks for any help!

OK, I found your postings over on the osCommerce site. I've never dabbled in this aspect of osC, but I need to learn it so I can do something similar (payment and immediate download).

http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=326016&hl=

Are you using the osC "downloadable products" feature? I thought that as soon as payment goes through that download is enabled. Does it not  work this way? It almost sounds like you're trying to roll your own "downloadable" feature -- is that what you're doing? Is there some reason you can't use osC's built-in downloading (or at least, build on it)?

 Hey Mr.Phil!  Hiya

Yes I have downloads set to true and have product attributes set properly. Live transaction-Everything works as expected, except that I have to change the order status from pending manually. So if I am not near a PC customers will be waiting for a product. Still unsure about the tax thing as well(I am in NY)

IPN test on paypal works.
I have my paypal certs in place as well.  I've been trying to get this site up and running since November(in my spare time) I feel like I am so close, but don't know what else to do. If you know anyone with experience, I am to the point where I am ready to pay someone to get this done for me.

Thanks for any help!

Maybe it's something specific to this version of PayPal? I can't believe that the osC developers would set up all the digital download stuff and then leave the store and customer hanging like that! I'll be looking into this myself within a month or two -- let's share here whatever we find out.

What aspect of taxes -- legal or osC implementation? My understanding is that the customer billing address is what counts for NY state sales taxes -- billed just as if you were physically shipping to that address. I think osC is supposed to handle that properly (once it has the billing address). Of course, with dozens of different tax rates in the state, it's a royal PITA to figure out the correct rate!

Well, if I get it figured out before you, and it's a non-tivial job to set you up... Maybe you should try again in the osC community forum -- even if the two developers are still in hibernation, the community seems to be fairly active. Just pick a board that deals with taxes and seems to be fairly active.

Over on the osC forum I see you asked for suggestions on other services. There are a couple of commercial services that I can think of, for digital downloads: payloadz.com and lulu.com. Of course, they'll charge you a small fee per transaction, but it may be worth it. You would just point your product entry over to them and they do the rest. Still, it would be a shame to come this far and not be able to figure out the very last part of it. Maybe no one on osC has used PayPal IPN with digital downloads (just other versions of PayPal)? Maybe you should try again on one of the more general boards ("General Support" or "Installation and Configuration") before giving up.

I was sent back to the OSC forums by lunarpages when I inquired about this IPN issue. Unfortunately, my provider LP can't answer, and the OSC forum has been a HUGE disappointment. I have actually received e-mail from people there asking if I ever got this to work.

So this is a sort of **Bump** to the thread. I would like to stick with IPN since it is so close to functional, and with my limited experience I don't want to introduce additional work.

Still willing to hire someone to get this running as well.

Thanks!

I got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clapping Applause Happy Happy Joy Joy Bouncin for Joy

I noticed status was set to pending, which I didn't have set in the IPN settings. It seems ExpressCheckout was still active, and taking priority during the sale(pending was set there). Disabling ExpressCheckout fixed the issue.

WooooHoooooooo!

Thanks for the help!
