If your server was recently upgraded to MySQL version 5, you may be having the same problem that plagues osCommerce installations. MySQL 5 now has higher precedence for JOIN than for the comma (,) operator, and you need to add parentheses around the list of tables on the left side of JOIN statements. Search on "1054" and "left join" in these forums for some examples. Maybe that will do the trick for Zen Cart too.
