Front Page Novice

« on: February 23, 2008, 01:59:53 PM »

I uploaded my website using Front Page 2003/http successfully. I then signed up with /ccbill to do payments. They appeared to be using ftp. I contacted Lunar because I wanted to upload some edits to the website so I could use the ccbill forms. I was told that ftp would be fine. The Front Page instructions told me to download a copy of the website, make the edits and then upload it. However, when I downloaded, all the photo galleries stopped working, they are only pictures now. I panicked and restored a shadow copy. I then decided to go back to using the http upload method but every time I try I get this message:

Unable to open "http://lilsoulflower.com'. Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the Front Page Server Extensions installed.
I checked they were installed and I reinstalled them.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
I don't know how to check this.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be incorrect.
How do I correct this?
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.
How do I fix this?
I am very new to this web hosting and it is very frustrating. Please any suggestions or guidance will be appreciated. Thank you.

Sometimes (but not always) using FTP publishing disturbs the FrontPage extensions. The remedy is usually to go to your cPanel, click the FrontPage icon, and reinstall the extensions.

Sometimes it is necessary to uninstall the extensions, cleanup the extensions, then reininstall the extensions.

FrontPage has been discontinued.
If you plan to stay with FrontPage, consider upgrading to FrontPage 2003 now.

Search the Microsoft KB for error messages:

The proper way to retrieve a copy of a FrontPage web site from the server is to open in FrontPage the web site live on the server using the File menu... Open Site... http://yourdomain.com. Then publish the site using the File System option down to a new, empty folder on your hard drive.
