Hello!

I read thru the frontpage topics twice trying to find a related topic (and a solution to my problem) but I didnt see any so I am posting this new topic for some help.

I recently was searching thru this forum as well as microsoft help and the FP help trying to fix another raodblock that I was stuck at and I inadvertanly read the solution to this current problem I am having but I cant seem to locate the correct resource for the answer so I am here to see if anyone can help me out.

What I use:
I am using FP 2002.

How I am using it:
I am creating most of my site using frames.

I have had the same problem in two different situations so I need to describe both scenarios to you.

First, yesterday when I finished creating a few pages, I began the preview process so I could test the results of my work and check the links.

I usually have my options set so that when I click on a link on one page in preview it will open the destination page in the same browser window.

When I previewed yesterday the link forced open an new browser window that was minimized.

I need help to find the option or check box to correct this action so that the click of a link on one page opens the new page in the same browser window.

*

Second scenario developed itself today when I created other pages and previewed them.

When I previewed the pages and clicked on a link to a new page it loaded the new page inside of a frame of the original page.

I am very confused about why this is happening and I know it is a very simple fix but I cant seem to find the instructions to do the fix.

Please help. Confused

Kinda hard to troubleshoot without seeing the actual website, but a basic link looks something like this:

Code:
<a href="http://www.lunarpages.com">Lunarpages</a>

If you want to open up in a new window:

Code:
<a href="http://www.lunarpages.com" target="_blank">Lunarpages</a>

If your links are opening in a new window and you don't want them to, erase the target="_blank" part.  Otherwise, add it if that's what you actually desire.

Hello,

Previewing within FrontPage is an unreliable indicator of what your page will look like or how it will act. If you want to preview files on your own computer, use Internet Explorer or Firefox to open the file. You can either start IE then use File menu... Open or you can right-click a file within FrontPage and choose Open With... Internet Explorer. You can leave IE open while you go back to FP to work on your page.

To control the target frame or window, right-click on the hyperlink and choose Hyperlink Properties. Then click the Target Frame button and you will see the various choices for where the new page will open up.

FrontPage has been discontinued.
If you plan to stay with FrontPage, consider upgrading to FrontPage 2003 now.

Thank You ibanezplayer85  and Rick_E  for responding to my post.

As far as the advice from ibanezplayer85 I was not able to resolve the problem because source code in HTML view told me that my browser doesnt support frames when I know it does.

Rick_E did post information that was helpful to me.

Adjusting the target frame properties to 'open in new window' solved my second problem but I still have my first problem and pages open in a new minimized window instead of the same window.

I then set the setting to  'default'  in the target frame dialog box but it made the destination page open up inside of the frame of the original page.

I've been searching microsofts help database for the past few hours and keep coming up empty handed.

You're interpreting that incorrectly. What you're seeing is the <noframes> tag in the source code for browsers that do not support frames. But all the new browsers do support frames so it's a non-issue.

I suggest opening the page in a different browser such as Firefox to see how it works. The minimized window may be a setting on your browser alone and not a fault of the code.

If you share the URL someone can check it out.

Thank You Ric_E for your information. Smiling

I found a corrupted piece of software on my system that was causing other issues on my computer.

I have fixed that problem by re-installing the software again and am in the process of cleaning up my machine.

I installed my copy of FP a few weeks ago while these issues were taking place and I am thinking this is whats causing these malfunctions.

I am going to just reinstall the FP program all over again to see if it also clears up the problems I am having with it.

Please give me a few days to do all this re-installation and clean up and I will post a update on the situation after it is completed.

Salutations  Welcome

The problem has been resolved.  Bouncin for Joy

I had loaded a register cleaning software into my computer one day and a component of it was corrupted during loading.

I resolved that issue by reloading the software.

Upon completing the reloading of that program, several system errors I was having exposed themselves and the system responded to fixes that were applied for them.

I then reloaded several other softwares including my FrontPage and then cleaned up my system with a file delete, disk clean, disk defrag and a scan disk operation.  Hypno

After extensive use of my FrontPage for the past few days I am confident that the issue was resolved.  Clapping

Thank You for your help and advise to apply fixes for this problem.  Thumbs Up
