i've just purchased a website hosted by lunarpages (www.nurcharecords.com)... and want to transfer the content of this site to a new domain name I have registered which is also hosted through lunarpages (www.souldonsound.com)..

i know there is simple redirection services available to divert content/traffic etc, thats not a problem at all.. the issue im having is that there is alot of external sites with links to data stored on www.nurcharecords.com... for example a fans myspace page would have link banners (eg. www.nurcharecords.com/images/nurchalinkbanner01.gif) on their site...

i want to close to domain of 'www.nurcharecords.com' and have 'www.souldonsound.com' as my domain name with all the exsisting content still there. however, im guessing when i do this... any external sites with links to data stored on www.nurcharecords.com will all drop off as the links will change too (eg.. 'www.soundonslound.com/images/nurchalinkbanner01.gif' for the fans myspace page)

basically im wondering if there is a way to keep the old links active on external sites without having to pay for the old domain name too?

I know the easiest way would be to remap the links on the external pages to reflect the domain name change... but there are currently hundreds of external sites with links and images that i dont have contact details for, or the access, to simply change the domain name on their end..

I have been reading up on 'A records' but am not at all sure if thats gonna help in what i wanna achieve... basically im just after someone with a bit more technical knowledge to let me know if this is even possible at all.. and if so what is the easiest way to go about it?

I'll leave the technicalities for a dedicated staff member (or you may shoot an e-mail over to dedicated@lunarpages.com) however, I can tell you that if you want to keep the domain name's links active, you would have to at least keep the domain name registered.

If you don't keep paying for the old domain name, someone else will, and get that traffic. It's under $10/year, so I would just keep paying for it.

Hello,

If you decide to stop paying for the old domain name, it will just stop resolving after the expiration date thus making the links not working until somebody registers it again, for example, to get the traffic, as it was mentioned earlier. So, the best is to keep the domain name active, and just stop using it in communication asking others to refer to the site via the new domain.
