Junk/bulk folders and reverse DNS

My dedicated Linux host (IP 209.200.248.217) mail server (Postfix) has been having problems delivering mail to Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail (GMail is fine by the way). Each message gets dropped directly into the Junk/Bulk folder. I ran the DNSReport.com tool and it told me that my Reverse DNS entry lookup failed. A quick nslookup ($ nslookup 209.200.248.217) tells me that the reverse DNS resolves to "dlv00084.lunarservers.com". So I have a couple questions:

1. Has anyone experienced this pain with sending mail to Homtail/Yahoo! Mail and managed to fix it?
2. Can I switch the reverse DNS entry for 209.200.248.217 to my server's name "www.vuzit.com"?
3. Another option would be to relay our mail through a LunarPages server. Is that possible?

Let me to try to help you with your questions:

Usually, properly formed email, SPF record for the domain and RDNS record resolving to your server, usually fixes this issue and emails go into the inbox instead of Junk/Bulk folder.

Yes, this is possible, but requires LP staff participation. There is also a setup fee of $35 for RDNS record setup.

Nope, unfortunately, dedicated server does not get other SMTP servers available for sending emails except the ones that can be installed on the server itself.

I had this problem, but not with Yahoo and hotmail -- with earthlink and craigslist mainly. The matching rDNS/DNS records fixed it $35 later. I wish they would tell me exactly what they modified so I could learn how to do it and then tell you how, but I guess thats how they make their money Smile

. They deleted my mailbox in the process (an accidental one-click delete from plesk they said), so be careful and backup your mail first!

Hello Fandelem,

I am terrible sorry to hear about the accident of mailbox removal during the ticket investigations. Can you please send me a private message with the ticket number where it happened so that we can do everything to prevent it from happening again?

As for RDNS setup, we do it on our nameservers and this is something that is not available for our customers. There is the setup fee for RDNS modification because RDNS records are used to track dedicated servers and their change from the default add some more confusion that require other things to get minimized.
