Currently I am using the same password for everything beside the WHM and Shell which assigned by Lunarpages. Other than that they all using the same password, wonder if that will create a security issue.

Also, how do I change the FTP Backup server password? I tried to change it on cpanel backup configuration, but I still able to log in with my old password.

The reason I want to update all my password is because I just switch a new web development company and trying to avoid the previous company to log in.

Is there a way the previous company could log in via some kind of ftp by using mySQL user name and password. Or as long as I changed my cpanel log in, there is no way for them to access to my database even though they are the one to create the user name and password for the mySQL. Please suggest  hug me

Thanks,
Francis Y.

Hi,

You can change all the passwords excepting the FTP backup account password yourself. It would be highly recommended to provide Lunarpages support with the new root password so that we could have it in case any assistance from our side would be required for you. The FTP server password change can be done only via support ticket.

WHM uses the root password as superuser privileges are required for server management. So the  root password is the same for both WHM and shell access. If you change it in WHM, it will change for shell access and vice versa.

MySQL and FTP logins are independent. If cPanel and additional FTP logins are changed and MySQL users are not allowed to connect to  dbs from any other host than localhost,  nobody would be able to get access to the dbs without knowledge of the new cPanel password.

I hope this helps.
