Scuse me cause I'm a little bit of a noob when it comes to the depth of knowledge that y'all (I'm in FL afterall  Whoops) have with Photoshop... but I'm getting into the  (Be sure to say this in an Arnold Swartzenger or some movie like voice)...  FLOATING BANNERS.  (referring to the main banner header)...

In particular, my flair at the moment is the rounded rectangle banner with a dropped shadow.

Here's the my problem (don't worry, I'll keep this just to computer issues):
When I have the rounded edges, I'd really like to have a transparent background to preserve the rounded edges.  But, since what I'm doing is a nice scenery pic, JPG's look much better.

Also, if possible, I'd like to create a rotating gif... or perhaps, create the same type of effect with a jpg if possible.

Any thoughts on how to preserve the transparent background for a jpg?

Thanks... Starke

jpg doesn't support transparent background. png supports it but IE has poor or no support for png transparent backgrounds. There is a javascript solution, apparently: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/index.htm

Thanks TND, that's what I feared... I'm thinking if I try to create a layer'd background the same as my background for the page, that I can get the effect that I'm looking for...

I'll check out the link to... thanks...

A png will probably handle this ok starke however you will have to watch for the transparency issue with IE 6.

...well, actually 32 bit JPEG files support an alpha transparency layer...but I think maybe only the latest IE browser supports them...actually maybe not even that.  BUT, Flash supports 32 bit alpha transparent JPEGs as well as alpha transparent PNG files AND Flash is THE most cross platform and cross browser compatible solution that currently exists...so you could design your whole site in Flash (just make sure you include a plain text fall back version for blind users using Linx).  Only downside is that the learning curve can be...somewhat steep.  Especially if you need PHP connectivity, want to create custom context menus, scroll bars, etc...pretty much you would need at least an intermediate knowledge of Actionscript 3 or a similar language.

The other way, using javascript is...well it works okay I guess:

Although even doing it up like that there can be some compatibility issues.
