Any suggestions on what package I can use to create the shiny (gel?) graphic effects used as backgrounds on the new LunarPage banners?

New LunarPage banners (look great!)

Thanks!

I would think any graphics program like Photoshop, PaintSHopPro, and I think Fireworks ,  etc would do that. Perhaps there is a CoffeeCup program that would do it ?
Just some suggestions  Thumbs Up

Maybe ReTodd will come by here and post what he used  (I think he made those ? )

Hi Randy,

I'm sure all those applications are capable of producing the shiny, w/wave, 3-d background - with lots of fiddling. I'm looking for a simple package (or a simple technique/tutorial for the apps you listed) for duplicating the shiny/wavy background effect.

One of my challenges is figuring out what the 'official' name of the effect(s) are so I can google for more info.  Confused

Thanks for your help!

I am generally a big illustrator/photoshop user, but I happened to make all the banners in Fireworks.  The effect is usually called a gel effect or glass, but I tend to make it simpler without inner shadows or shading.

Here I use a solid background and overlay a white ellipse (others I use a rounded rectangle) with the transparency set between 10 and 26, depending on the background color. Really simple, but a pretty clean effect.

For the ones like this:

I took a square, used the circular seclection tool and subtracted it, creating the arc, and set the transparency.

Hope this helps, and glad you like the banners. They aren't super snazzy, but that's not what I was going for anyway.

The new banners are great. I was on digg a few weeks ago and found an article about ajax (trying to implement some of this stuff on my sites) and ran across a 'web 2.0' styles page that gives you examples, etc.

In this case they're using Photoshop.
