I  have read a few posts, after a search on LP forums, about installing Coppermine photo gallery. Is there a tutorial available that I can understand around here? I noticed on one post thread that LP wants me to disregard chmod 777 and chmod 755. OK, now the questions start as pertains to imagemagik and a bridge etc. Can anyone lead me through the particulars? Or, at least make them understandable as pertains to LP? I mean, the instructions say to chmod 777 and LP says not to. What else do I have to understand so as not to end up with a complete mess due to my ignorance? I prefer to get it right the first time and am just getting my Joomla powered site together. Don't want to drop the old ignorance bomb on my efforts.

And, yeah, after a month here I think LP is a great host. Just can't find the cucumber sandwiches and the Earl Grey Tea anywhere! Hypno

Use our tutorial at http://coppermine-gallery.net/tutorial/download.php

The Coppermine instructions say 777/755 so you use whichever is appropriate for your server setup. Permissions should be 755 for LP.

When installing, leave the path to Imagemagick box blank. Coppermine will then use GD2 which is available on all LP servers.

If you have other questions feel free to post them here or on the Coppermine support forum if you are feeling brave. Very Happy

when using 755 on lunarpages server it is the equivelant of using 777 on other servers, this is because lunarpages us SuPHP which allows our users to create there own php.ini file.

coppermine comes with installation instructions with it when you download it, you will need to create a mysql database to connect it to, this is explained here: http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=21575.0

you can see the insructions here: http://coppermine-gallery.net/tutorial/download.php

Thanks James and Nibbler. One preliminary question. Do I unzip the files on my computer and then upload them? Also, I have a php and mysql data base already setup for Joomla on my sites subdomain where I am working on it. Can I use that DB or do I need to set up a new one just for Coppermine? Thanks a lot for being so quick with help!!! And one more. As I was typing about my subdomain, I thought to ask, How do I switch everything to my main domain? I don't feel that a redirect is proper, or, is it? And, should I switch all to my main domain before installing Coppermine  so that everything is where it eventually needs to be?

i would advise you unzip the files and then upload them (although you dont have to)

you can use the same database, although since you have unlimited databases for FREE Smile  it would be tidier to keep them seperate...

is it joomla you want to move to your main domain, or do you want coppermine on your main domain?

can you give links of where they are now?

Yes you would unzip the files on your pc and upload them via ftp, at least that's how I did mine !

And I would suggest creating a new database for the coppermine since you are allowed unlimited ones at LP and it will make it simpler down the road in case of troubleshooting any issues later !

as for redirecting, I dont see it s necessary would be more efficient now and later to just get the main domain working as it should where its going to be, as for installiing Coppermine, go ahead and install it into a folder named "gallery" or whatever you want inside your public_html folder and all your links will point to that so when you change your domain everything will still work

Hope this was helpful,,

One point of confusion; what is the difference between GD, imagemagik and the so called "bridge"? Does LP configure all of this or just the GD? A bit confused as to what I will need. Thanks.

Also, I have checked the forum at Joomla and most of their posts and tutorials denote builds of Joomla as far back as 1.0.4. Seeing as how it is now at 1.0.10 I am not sure that these are accurate. The other prob. I have is that they, Joomla, refer tutorials to older Mambo posts. that said, I need to depend on this forum for updated info, if poss. I will check Coppermine forums on the 'morrow. In the meantime I would greatly appreciate any input from you folks. I am going to try to get this done by Thursday PM of this week as I am leaving for a photo shoot this weekend.

GD is what is automatically on the LP servers to use with Coppermine, it works just fine on mine, so I see no need for Imagemagik which I guess would have to be manually installed and configured,, and the "bridge" is what is used to make Coppermine work or "bridge it" to a CMS such as Mambo or Joomla. That is a separate file that has to be downloaded and installed and configured and then tweaked (css, etc) to match your site`s look.

As for versions of Joomla, Mambo etc, it is always best to have the latest version, not neccesarily a beta but the latest stable version as when your version gets too old it is harder to update.

I hope this helps, good luck on making your thursday deadline, help is here if you need it.

gd is used to resize images to thumbnails e.t.c. automatically so you do not have to resize them all yourself, there is no need for image magick.

Thanks for that RAT. I am thinking at this time that Thurs. is not going to work. Too much prep for the trip. I sometimes place more pressure on myself than is healthy. One thing at a time, perhaps? The bridge is what I am not sure of. I assume that there are some instructions that come with software. As I am new to all of this I am going to have to figure it out as I go. I know a little CSS but nothing concerning the bridge and php and mysql. (well, not nothing...I am sure I know just enough to make a false presumption  Haha) At any rate. I have read some of your posts and will get hold of you (if you don't mind) and ask a few preparatory questions once I have Coppermine uploaded and properly installed on my server.
