Hi there. Many people ask how they can allow their e-mail users to change their e-mail password without having access to the C-Panel. This How To: guide will explain this simple proceedure. STEP ONE: User enters the following address to their browser: http://www.yourdomain.com/webmail[/list:u] STEP TWO: When the user name and password box appears they enter: USER NAME: account+domain.com PASSWORD: their password[/list:u] STEP THREE: At this point, the option screen loads offering 'NeoMail' 'Horde' and 'Squirrel Mail'. Just below these icons are the options: ' [Change Password] [Forwarding Options] [Autoresponder Options]' Have the user click on the [Change Password] link STEP FOUR: Have the user enter the new password in both boxes manually. Then they click the 'Change Password' button That's it, the password has now been changed. To curb the obvious question, there is no method for changing password's within the individual e-mail clients. If you usually restrict your users to using a single mail client, you will just have to trust that they will go back to using that.
Also, this is the method for the supplied e-mail clients. If you have installed your own e-mail client, and use that, this method will not work for you.

Very nice and clear Hush. I was looking for something like this. I saw one tiny thing that might make it even clearer though. USER NAME : address+domain.com
PASSWORD : their password I think it would be easier to understand if you replaced "address" with "account" or "username". Address is such an ambiguous word in internetland. Thanks for writing this up for everyone.  |

As you ask, so shall it be done. It's always difficult to decide what to use for user replaceable entries. However, you are right, account certainly makes more sense than address. Thanks |

So did I  . At the moment I am leaning towards this having to be handled either by the Admin, or by finding and invoking a script. Once I have completed the setup, tweaking and How To, I'll write in the methods for user password change. |

OK... One more question. If you are using LP for the email hosting only, and not the web space (since I am currently running a web server of my own for this purpose), how can we direct users to that password change page? Going to www.domain.com/webmail is not going to do me any good, since the directory structure and related password page do not exist on my web server. Is there an alternate way of accessing the LP-provided web space? Like a subweb of lunarpages.com? |

Yes, you can use server.lunarpages.com/webmail where you replace server with your server's name.

jmartinfamily.lunarpages.com wouldn't be your server's name. It should be something like Apollo, Andromeda, Galaxy, whatever server you are on, so apollo.lunarpages.com/webmail depending on the server's name.
