I got lunarpages yesterday and the first thing I want to do is install the phpbb -- then I saw this thread and now I'm wondering whether I should do a manual installation.  it looks to me that I can easily install the bb thru cpanel.   My guess is that if I do that I'll not be able to use the mysql for anything else, but manual installation would allow me to have chat with the same mysql database?

Hi there Maggie.

Setting up PHPBB through C-Panel will not prevent you from using the database for other things, however, each of the auto installs from C-Panel requires a fresh database, so unless you have the Voyager account, you will need to purchase extra databases if you want to use more than one auto install that is reliant on having a database.

The setup proceedure for PHPBB manually is very straight forward really, and to be honest, whilst I now consider myself a moderate level user, the first time I did the manual installation, it was the first thing I had done with PHP, first thing with an online database, first program installation on my Lunar Pages account.

As long as you go step by step it need not be a problem.  The other thing of course is you must have a database set up, however, this is very simply done through C-Panel.  As a recommendation, the C-Panel X skin is easy to use.  Have a look at your C-Panel, if it is blue in colour and says C Panel 6 near the top, I would recommend you email support@lunarpages.com and request a change to the C-Panel 'X' theme.  This is much better in layout, and easier to use.

If you find any part of the How To: article confusing, let me know and I'll explain it.  This will also help me to modify the tutorial to help make it easier for other people.

Perhaps I could introduce a lower level of dullness (aka ignorance) into this group.   If I can install and setup a phpBB from cPanel, why would I need to manually install phpBB?  I can only guess that the LunarPages version isn't the most recent?

Addendum: (Haven't typed an addendum for awhile...!)
1) Yes, I did create a new db (this could be a HowTo of it's own).
2) Yes, I did create a new user and add it to the new db (with full access).

My forum sends email from shankar@danzig.lunarpages.com, I tried
setting email from shankar@langchat.com but it is then sending it from
shankar@langchat.com@danzig.lunarpages.com.  Is there any way to
rectify this?

can I set the reply to address as shankar@yahoo.com because I am not using my website's email accounts?

of course all emails mentioned here are fictious in case some one mines this forum for emails
