Hi folks,
has anyone managed to use Subversion on LP account?
Are there any restrictions on LP servers not allowing to do that, particularly - a blocked port 3690, or maybe something else?
Thanks for any input on that.

Just did a quick skim through some of the subversion documentation... several issues, the main one being that since it acts as "server" software, it wouldn't be allowed by LP and wouldn't be a good idea in the shared hosting environment in most (if not all) cases.
Additionally, it appears to require Apache2, and the servers at LP are running Apache1.x, so there's another obstacle...
And you'd have to compile it on your machine locally matching LP's setup as closely as possible, and even then there might some things that don't go right...
So, though I'm not staff and could be wrong, based on what I've read about it so far, I don't think it will work on the LP servers...

It looks like the best way for those like me that'd like to start using Subversion right away is to go with special hosting providers.
Well, that's the case.

Maybe you could set up your own server with the necessary requirements with one of LP's dedicated server plans.

Yes, you can install anything you would like on the dedicated servers so long as it is legal in the state of California, so this would be allowed to be installed on a dedicated server of ours. Heya K -
we looked at this about 5 months ago - and it was a no-go then - there were just 'too many things to configure' that I know for certain is impossible to configure here at LP [not that its a bad thing, its just impossible] .
I won't go into those now - but for the nonce - I'll tell ya that we fixed this via a subdomain redirect so that our programmers can get to use via
some_other_url.efgroup.net
and the redirect goes into a static ip box we own on the net.

Well, i've just found some free *edit* at cvsdude.org set up a free 2MB  account, get set a TortoiseSVN on my end, and now trying to figure how that all works together. |

Old topic, new info. http://www.assembla.com will host your subversion requirements - free for projects up to 200MB, multi users, etc. It works fantastically for me. If you need integrated Subversion with a bigger site, it's not the right option. As you can see, I'm a Lunarpages customer for my webspace. |

Google code uses subversion too and its also free ...for open source projects only. I suppose it fits with their ethos, but unsuitable for 95% of projects. Looks like they are encroaching on the Sourceforge territory. |
