I just started this site and installed Joomla. I have never used it before and am definitely a beginner. I was able to install some templates that came free from joomla with no problem. But then, when I started a Google search, I have not been able to install any other set of templates, no matter where they came from. None of the packaged templates from joomla fit my needs, and I want something more youthful (this is for an elementary school). There are a couple templates available from Siteground that I like ("clouds" and "summer") that would be better, but when I try to install, it gives me the error message "could not find Joomla! XML file in package"...but there is one there. I have unzipped and rezipped.  I have tried to ftp directly into the template folder where I see the others that I installed. Nothing is working. I have searched for a possible fix....can't find a solution. I have checked global settings.

Suggestions?  Confused

Wait...think I figured this out. I didn't realize when I installed that Fantastico didn't have the latest version! I have been downloading 1.5 templates, when the installed version is not 1.5. How do I install 1.5 when Fantastico doesn't have it yet?

Found this link, might help - http://needforcontent.com/joomla-tutorial-installing-templates-and-extensions

It could also be that this theme you want to use is not for that version of Joomla.  I found several solutions worth trying out after a Google search you might want to browse through too.  For Fantastico updates, we have to wait for the Fantastico people to update first and then for the update to be stable enough to make it to the cPanel updates. Hope that helps!

That's definitely the problem. My advice: stick with what's supported by Fantastico until you have more experience. I have 2 active and 2 test Joomla! sites and the 1.0 series does everything I need. There are lots of templates out there for the 1.0 series, just look closely at what you are downloading. Hope this helps.

I'm new to Joomla but working on a few sites and certainly no expert.  There is a plug-in in 1.5 that is not enable by default that is called "System - Legacy" which is suppose to allow users to load 1.0 templates, modules and components but I haven't tried it yet.  Look under Extension in the Plug-in Manager on the 2nd page (sort of hidden)

Hope this helps some.
