We are Running Joomla 1.5/SMF 1.1.4

Before I installed the subject component, I went to Help|System Info|PHP Information|mysqli and noted "MysqlI Support   enabled"

I took this to mean that
1. The System Information reflected my installation on LunarPages
2. That the following  J2SMF System Requirements were valid (specifically the MySQLi driver was available);
    a. The current version of Joomla 2 Simple Machines Forum Bridge works with recent versions of the Joomla 1.5 framework. It will not work with either  Joomla 1.0 or any of the Mambo distributions.
    b. J2SMF also requires PHP 5 and the MySQL Improvied ( MySQLi ) core library. Joomla must be configured to connect to the database using the MySQLi driver and not the older MySQL driver.

After I installed the component, I went to Site|Global Configuration|Server, the Database Type is "mysql". I understand this component causes fatal errors if the MySQL driver is used, thus have not enabled it.

Finally my question, since MySQLi Support is enabled, will the MySQLi driver be used, or is there something I must change in either cPanel or Joomla Global Configuration?

I searched multiple forums and support sites but could not find this specific question addressed. I thank you in advance as we are new to both LunarPages and Joomla.
