I installed Joomla both by using Fantastico and as a standard install (e.g., download from Joomla.org, uncompress, upload, create a MySQL databased, etc.). I am trying to create this installation on a subdomain, currently the fantastico verion is in subdomain.mysite.com/cms and the other is in subdomain.mysite.com/joomla. I'm seeing the following problems:  Head Bashin

1. On both versions. Permissions: Session save path, Unwriteable

2. On the non-Fantastico version (though I imagine it also affects the Fantastico version). Security: Following PHP Server Settings are not optimal for Security and it is recommended to change them:Joomla! RG_EMULATION setting is `ON` instead of `OFF` in file globals.php `ON` by default for compatibility reasons

3. Register Globals Emulation:   Recommended OFF:    Actual ON (I guess this is the same as above).

Any ideas on fixing both of these?

Thanks,
Michael

OK, so items 2 and 3 are the same and I found I need to keep register_globals on otherwise another (and more important to me) script will break.

But what about item 1?

Hi,
so this item number one appears during installation?
I am not sure (don't know what session save path leads to) but did you check that your subfolder is writable? I Think some subfolders have to be writable as well.

I'm not sure where it lives, so I can not check it.

This seems to be a common issue with Joomla installs though.

I'm having the exact same issue. Can't proceed with my Joomla install because I can't find where to set permissions for "session save path".

If tech support comes back with a definitive answer, I'll post it here.

Okay, probelm resolved. Here's the scoop on my solution:

The "session save path" (for me) was defined as "/var/lib/php/session". I have a VPS, and even when I CHMOD'ed the entire path at 777, I still couldn't get Joomla in.

What tech support did was change my session save path in my "php.ini" to "/tmp" and set permissions for that.

If you're on a shared server, tech support will have to make any path call changes and set path permissions for you. If you have a VPS or dedicated, you can do it all at root level.

Be sure to note exactly how Joomla sees your "session save path" defined, and that will tell you whether or not it's a path change plus permissions, or just permissions that are needed.

Hope that helps.
