First off, I know how to install a template on Joomla using the installer provided. My question is: Some of the free templates I have downloaded will not install and the error comes up that there is no "install" file or program with the template, not sure which it doesn't have. Is there a way to install these or is there a problem with the program itself. This is true of about 8-10 templates that I have tried from this one site. They are free and I'm not sure how to work with these. I am merely trying several to see which will conform to my preconceived style.

I am also installing these, for now, on xxamp localhost server.

Hi moved this to the proper forum.

Do they have some sort of xml file? eg templatename.xml

If so unzip the template and put the folder in your template directory along with the others. They should/might then work

Where are you getting these templates from?

Hi crotographer,

I've noticed this at times with some of  the free templates.

If there's no xml file included with the template what you will have to do is ftp the template folder into your templates folder in your joomla install.

Joomla should see this and the template should appear in your site templates as normal.

Hoping this sorts your problem.

I am getting these from: http://www.mambohut.com. I will check to make sure that there is an xml file and get right back to you. The first post for this subject was the last post I made last night and I should have had that info for you. Didn't mean to "thread" this along with a lack of proper info Hiya

Yes, they have a file "template details.xml". Does that help?

I tried the template install on Joomla and the error came up, "installation missing". I have done this quite a few times before and most were successful. However, at that time I was just messing around with Mambo/Joomla, testing its validity for potential use as a photography website. Now that I am certain I can use Joomla and love its interactivity with users I am starting the process of putting together a site and this has become important. The lack of successful install using the Joomla installer for templates is something I expected, but now I need to try these templates. They are close to the "ambience" that I want folks to see when first visiting. That is why I wanted to see if there was a way to install them manually. As I mentioned, they do have an xml data file.

Down the road apiece I intend to make my own template(s). For right now I want to use these as I have my plate pretty full just learning the idiosyncracies of "mastering the web". Happy Happy Joy Joy
