Help please! I just updated my website and took down a FP web and put up one built in DW.  (Same domain - just rebuilt my web) Now my links to my blog and forum don't work and I"m getting just a directory.  What do I do to get it to work right again?

At first my entire web was like that but I called LP and they made an adjustment because my home page now is Index.html rather than index.htm as it was before.  So, now the web is working but they said they can't help that the blog and the forum don't work now.  Do I need to uninstall and re-install and start over for both of them?

Thanks for any assistance.

When publishing with Dreamweaver and taking down your Frontpage site - did it change your .htaccess file any?  I know with WordPress (if that is what you have for your blogging) it is heavily dependent on the .htaccess file and changing the content or overwriting it with something else could cause it not to work.  Is your blog and forums installed into their own folder?

This might be a little easier for support to help you with on the server side as well, since they would be able to see the files that were effected.  Might drop in a support ticket to them at support@lunarpages.com.  You should be able to get a reply that way - and if not, you can tell me the ticket number and I'll be sure you get somebody to look in on your ticket.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for your reply.  I have no idea if it changed the htaccess file.  I don't think so.  And I just called LP and they refused to help me with it so I haven't put in a ticket.  They told me it was a development issue because I made changes to my web and to call my webmaster.  I am the webmaster but I have no idea what to do.  The tech I talked with was condenscending and rude.

How would I determine if the htassess file has changed? I didn't change it.  I deleted all of the FP pages except for those files and uploaded the new DW pages.  All the other pages and links work fine since they made the adjustment to allow for my home page being named Index.html instead of index.htm or index.html

Thanks-

And also, yes they are both installed into their own folders.  And all worked fine until I changed from Fp to DW. It's a WP blog and an SMF forum.

Could you post the site page so we can look at the links being published. Sometimes if you do not have the folders and files for your blog and forum software resident on your local system, DW will build incorrect links.

Yeah. the site is http://www.forparentsofadolescents.com

I think I may have just figured it out.  I clicked on the index.php on both those directories and that worked.  So, I'm going to change the links to be that.

Is that the best and easiest solution?  I can do a find a replace and get it up there fast unless there really is something that is simplier.  Thanks.

Actually, I'm not sure that just changing those links is the best option.  It will work okay for my readers I guess but the admin is still giving me the directory for various links.  But, at least the links on the site work okay now by making that change. If anybody has any other words of wisdom, I'm listening....

Thanks!

You must have something odd in your .htaccess file to keep it from using the default index.php in each directory. For a lot of reasons this is not good. You really do not want people to be able to view your files, as well as the linking problem. Can you show us your .htaccess file?

I went ahead and changed the links so that directory doesn't show now when somebody clicks on the links on the site.  refresh your page and try it again - use both the forum for parents link and also the author's blog link - left nav bar about halfway down.

And let me know if you still think I should do something different.

Thanks.
