I installed SMF in a new directory then ran the converter...but ran into an issue:
I was told "the cause of this problem is that your host has session.save_path to a non writable directory... and that the path /phpsessions must exist and be writable".
... I DO have /phpsessions there - and it's writable to "User" (only).
So:
1. Should I make it also writable to "Group" and "Other"?
or
2. Do I need to put /phpsessions UNDER public_html? (and if so, what is the correct permissions setting?)
Attached is a snapshot of my directory. There you'll see /phpsessions, which is writable to "User" only.
