i g You chose to install in the main directory of the domain artdog.org, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain artdog.org (path="/home/artdog2/public_html/").You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
images

guess I am still messing up with my files.
this is message I get when trying to install coppermine. I do not know how to fix this. thanks  artdog

The error message is saying that the conflict is due to a folder called images. As you can see, you already have a folder named images, which is a folder that coppermine needs. However, it can't create its own images folder because you already have one and that could cause issues.

What you can do is install coppermine in a subfolder of its own. However, this depends on how you want your site set up. Do you want the gallery at the root of your site or as a subfolder?

Since this isn't a Frontpage script, I will move this accordingly. Smile

I want coppermine to be secondary to my frontpage, a place for all my photo and art galleries. A place to click and go to. But of course I don't know how to make it happen and will screw up probably.I think that file called images was  just a temp.holding place I created for pics an art. That has to be the conflict. But I will wait for advice before I proceed. As always thanks and I appreciate all the help. I feel like I need it each step of the way. Smile artdog

If you want the gallery to be a secondary site, you should/could put it into a subfolder. That's what I have done. I actually have mine set up as a subdomain: gallery.mydomain.com and gallery is the name of the subfolder. With the gallery in a subfolder, you don't have to worry about the images folders conflicting.

Coppermine is quite straightforward when it comes to the installation. You can use Fantastico to do it for you, or do it manually. Fantastico requires an available database to install, but a manual installation will allow you to install into an existing database. I appreciate its ease of installation after installing other scripts manually. The documentation is quite thorough. Now, there is even a tutorial for it.

This sounds very straight forward. I will take your path and see what happens Smile
I have to go back and see your whole site. I only viewed the gallery the 1st time.

I have also installed Coppermine in a sub folder of my Front Page site. Although I did not make it a subdomain. My forum is set up the same way.

The only difficulty I have run into is the fact that I have to do some extra steps to have a backup of my Coppermine and PhpBB files and folders. Since I have the rest of my site on my computer and edit them all there first, I didn't need to worry about the bulk of my site getting backed up.

Ok guys I am getting confused again. I have read through coppermine tutorials and advice from you guys and do not understand the upload method. The tutorial says Use FTP. The front pg tutorials say that FTP and HTTP conflict. I need someone to point me in rt direction again  before I create another mess.
As always
 thanks

Hello artdog2,

I am also using Front Page for my site. If you are publishing with Front Page, you do NOT wasnt to use FTP even for a script like Coppermine. What I have done is to go thru CPanel File Manager to upload the files into a folder for Coppermine. Once you have the files there, you can follow the rest of Coppermine's instructions for setting it up. This is done the easiest if you upload the .tar or .zip files and then extract the files with File Manager. Otherwise you will spend a considerable amount of time uploading the individual files with the chance that one gets missed in the process.

Hope that helps.

I'm sorry artdog2,  when I answered before I thought you were still working on installing coppermine. I went and looked at your site and it appears that you have coppermine installed all ready.

If you are working on uploading pictures, work with Coppermine and upload the pictures with their program. I'm pretty sure those will have to be done individually and not in a .zip file. Thu would be able to explain if there is a way to upload a large number of pictures. I haven't needed that, so I haven't tried using it that way.

My apologies for not understanding what part of the process you were working on.

AOL is a mystery - afraid I wouldn't have a clue there.

When uploading pictures I have only ever uploaded individual pictures. So I can't really help you there either. Sorry.

Your site looks nice though. Can't wait for you to get it all done!
