Hello all,

If you take a look at my forum at www.beyondfootball.com/forum you will notice that the background of the top logo looks good in Firefox but in Internet Explorer the background does not blend.

Anyone know how this can be fixed?

Thanks!

I'm using IE version 6.0.29xxxx.

Which version are you using?

Looks ok in IE7, wish I still had a version here handy of IE6 to check on it for you. Smile

I see a darker blue rectangle about 400px by 200px about 20 px from the left edge of the banner in IE7.

Your header background is a .gif, whereas your logo is a png.

PNGs have alpha transparency levels, where as GIF files have only one level of transparency. Internet Explorer 6 and below don't have support for those alpha levels of transparency.

Internet Explorer 7 supports these levels of transparency. So why is it that PNG files look darker then? This has nothing to do with transparency. This has everything to do with Photoshop. Photoshop stores gamma information in all PNG files, that causes them to be rendered differently in IE7.

Delete that gAMA entry out of your PNG files, and it'll all look fine. You can use a freeware program, PngCrush, to do this: http://pmt.sourceforge.net/pngcrush/

Do a search on 'PNG color shifts', you'll come up with a lot of hits.

I tend to make sure I save the logo and header background as the same file type. Saves me headaches down the road, as the colors will always match.

I just found a great article about it here: http://morris-photographics.com/photoshop/articles/png-gamma.html

UPDATE: Photoshop CS3 has fixed this problem, gamma metadata is no longer embedded into PNG files. So you would only need to strip the unnecessary gamma metadata if using CS and CS2.

Thanks for the help!

I downloaded the program but I can't figure out what to do. It's just a .exe file that opens and closes. Am I missing something?

That program was much easier to figure out.

I put my logo image in and replaced the current one on the forum, but I'm still getting the same problem. You can check out the site. I think you'll see the same issue.

I will attach the logo. Do you think you can give it a shot Todd? Confused
