For those of us using the Wordpress installed from LP's Fantastico:

I found Matt Cutts' blog post on how to install your own security update:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/security-update-upgrade-your-wordpress-to-233/

He says, "Unless you want registered users to be able to edit your blog posts, you should update..."

Here is the Wordpress post about the updates.

Thanks for the suggestion and links!  Just did this update yesterday myself - wasn't too bad.  Always remember to also backup before you do any update. Better to be safe than sorry.   Thumbs Up

Mitch:

Can you tell me the proper way to backup a blog? I connect through Dreamweaver MX. Every once in a while I'll pull down all the files from the remote server to my local computer in the folder "blog", where the install is.

Is that enough? Do I also have to do something with a database?

I went to the cpanel/fantastico and it suggests I update from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2, and I didn't do it because of the warning about how you shouldn't upgrade if you've modified anything. When will I be able to go straight to 2.3.3? Or do I have to update incrementally? I've already just uploaded the xmlrpc file from 2.3.3.

With backing up WordPress, there are a few plugins that will do this for you:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=backup

Also, you could do it the "long" way here:

http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

I'm not sure if just replacing that one file will mess up your automated upgrades with Fantastico.  If you are worried about that, you might want to wait till Fantastico offers the upgrade option.  This usually happens in this order:

1.  Fantastico Updates WordPress
2.  Cpanel Updates Fantastico
3.  Lunarpages Updates Cpanel

So there is no definite time table as to when it will be available to you this way.  If you want to start upgrading WordPress yourself, more help on how to do that is here:

Gotta back up two things:
1. Your Wordpress wp-content folder (where your theme lives), your .htaccess file, and your wp-config.php file in the root of your blog. You can use DW to do that. Just pull it down using the FTP site. Everything else can be reinstalled.
2. The installed wp database. That's where all your posts live. I use this plugin. It's easy.
