I'm working on a site that needs to include a calendar, pages with pop-up information, a two tiered menu system, member database, etc. and I need to pick a CMS Portal.  The calendar needs to be small, attractive, provide multiple categories, allow for images and provide summary and detail levels.  (model version at www.pcpa.com

I've installed phpWebsite.  The more I work with it, the more my enthusiasm for this project diminishes.

In looking through the Opensource CMS ratings for portals, I stumbled upon e107.  The LF posts I've found give it great reviews but they are rather dated.  The calendar systems on the show&tell sites look pretty good.

I'm soliciting recommendations.  I'll go back and tackle phpWebsite if the consensus is that this is the most flexible system.  If you think e107 is the best, any suggestions to facilitate installation will be appreciated.

I know enough PHP/MySQL to get me into trouble but I've been writing code in HTML, some CSS, foxpro (dbms), dumb basic and I cut my teeth in pascal.  I should be able to get through this and come out much smarter on the other end?!

Thanks for your advice,
Deb Confused

Right off the top of my head, I would suggest WordPress, Joomla or Drupal.  Applause

Thanks so much for your suggestions.  I did check Joomla and, although the sample calendar on their website is the type we need (small), it doesn't have the level of detail needed.  I will research at Wordpress and Drupal.

With my appreciation,
Deb

Hi Deb,

Firstly, I do not understand why this script the site is using here does not (?) include a calender mod. It has many  nice features and lovely colors! Clapping

Otherwise, when it comes to calendars as well as open source but serious and safe CMS, I would suggest you to use WebAPP CMS, it has many addons, and right now they also work on replacing their old Calendar with a brand new one, they actualy asked for input from users while creating it this Calendar.

I used WebAPP since 2003 and have been very happy with the 24/7 supporting community.
