I was wondering if anyone has used a backlink exchange or marketplace. I am not interested in being submitted to a zillion directories, but I would love to find some efficient way to find quality sites with my audience who are looking actively to exchange links. It seems like such a service or site would be out there, but I have had no luck in finding it.

thanks

Well, the search engines usually frown on these types of services and an deals.  My best advice to you would be to go out on your own and find like minded web sites that will link to you or exchange links.

Mitch,

I realize that services that do the work for you are frowned upon, although I am not sure how SE can tell. I was more interested in finding a place where sites who want to exchange links can advertise that fact. I have manually submitted inquiries to 12 sites, only 2 wrote back. So I know this process is going to be tedious, I was just hoping there might be some more organized, efficient way to get two parties together. Any ideas?

SEs somehow determine "what your site is about" and "what their site is about", and if they're too different, the SE doesn't like it. The idea is not to prevent someone from running a match-making service for sites, but to stop "link farms" and such gaming of the system, trying to artificially inflate your incoming link count when in fact most of those links will never be used.

No, but it sounds like a good idea for a successful business! You sell your services as a match-maker to bring together like-minded (but not necessarily directly competing) sites who would like to exchange links, that Google et al. would be happy to count. The trick would be to mostly automate the system, to minimize people time needed to make the decision.

Mr Phil,

after much searching, I found a discussion board that had a few such postings. I tried to register and of course just got an error message--no one there to contact. Ugh. I think it is a good business idea, but I have no time to launch such a thing. In the meantime--Lunarpages--Mitch? You guys want to set up a section on the forums for that exchange to happen? It would be nice.

Well, that decision wouldn't fall on my head, but you might want to shoot over an e-mail to feedback@lunarpages.com.  Not high enough on the totem pole to do that one for you.  Smiling

I found a forum that does this
http://forums.build-reciprocal-links.com/

it seems like this site has an automated system for link exchange, but if it involves putting a script on a apge, I suspect it is susceptible to the same google scrutiny.
