Hi,
I use the Google sitemap generator and have set various filters to remove certain content and restrict it from submission.
Does anyone know how to prohibit the generator from capturing directory paths rather than the files within the directories?

I get the following (where 'emails' is a directory url, the directory does not contain an index file):

<url>
  <loc>http://www.mysite.co.uk/emails</loc>
  <lastmod>2007-12-19T21:39:16Z</lastmod>
  <priority>1.0</priority>
 </url>
 <url>
  <loc>http://www.mysite.co.uk/emails/email_06-08-07.php</loc>
  <lastmod>2007-12-19T21:38:08Z</lastmod>
  <priority>1.0</priority>
 </url>
...etc

Is there a filter someone knows to limit to only files and not directories?

Hope i've explained OK.

Cheers
Matt

Are you using the CoffeeCup generator?  If so this page may be of some use to you:

http://www.coffeecup.com/google-sitemapper/help/

Also you could also edit it after the sitemap was generated, cutting out what is between the <url> and </url> but that might be a pain if you had too many edits you needed to do.

I'm not using the coffeecup software, I use the Google one:

https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/sitemap-generator.html

As you state, I could remove all these links after the sitemap.xml has been generated, but there are quite a few so really I wanted to be able to filter them out when the generator runs,

Ah ok, wish I was more familiar with this - maybe it is time to play with it again.  After searching, I found under this section "Create the configuration file as follows:" under number 8 - that talks about making filters in your config file.  That would be the first place I'd check to find out how to get this done.

Thanks for your reply...

I use the filters section to remove content already but I can't envisage what the filter would be to identify and remove a directory whilst allowing files within the directory to still be indexed.
