Hi... Hiya....How does Google / Yahoo pick up my sites external links please ?

Does Google just pick them up naturally (or could there be problem with my link pages below somehow ?) or should I be manually adding these external links somewhere, say to the Sitemap ??

I used to have external links on my homepage and noticed in my Google Webmaster account that these links were picked up and listed (from the homepage).

But I have since rearranged my link pages and added more links which are not showing up !

My links are located at "Links" from the homepage. then click a "link category" to another page that displays "external links" in the following order: So you have to click two pages before you get to the external links page !

Example:

http://www.mysite.com/index.php?page=dating

Any comments much appreciated   Applause
Thanks

Search engines will pick up your links naturally, provided that your pages are crawlable. If you use certain techniques such as writing text onto the page using JavaScript document.write(), then your pages won't be crawlable.

It can take weeks for new things to show up, especially in Google.

It is often said that search engines tend to crawl "shallowly", that top level folders and files are crawled more often and thoroughly than deeper files. If that's so, then they're doing a pretty bad job of crawling!

Someone else can comment on whether the format you show poses a problem for search engines. It's possible to rewrite your URLs to a more supposedly "search engine friendly" format, but I don't know if it's necessary.

You would add your own site pages to your sitemap, but there's no place where you can or should report your links to other sites.

Steve,

Thanks for answering my question on Google picking up my links naturally and confirming that I do not have to add them to the sitemap.

Hopefully, someone will be along soon to tell me if I should have a problem with the format of my link pages and if the search engines will pick up these pages OK ?

Example
http://www.mysite.com/index.php?page=directories

Perhaps I should move them all back to the homepage...Google picked them up straight away here !
