I have a computer services business and want to get it optimized for local search engine advertising.  I read an article in this Months Edition of the "Entrepreneur" magazine and it talks about using the following sites.

1)  local.com
2)  reachlocal.com
3)  registerlocal.com
4)  truelocal.com
5)  Yellow Pages.com
6)  Citysearch.com
7)  Ask.com
Gleam  Merchantcircle.com

I was looking for some additional advice or comments from people who have successful or unsuccessful experiences with some of these sites.  I have already registered with the Yahoo Local and Google Local Maps to get started.  I also advertise in craigslist and some of the other classified ads.

The biggest challenge I see happening is getting my site to come up as number 1 with the keywords "computer repair" to someone living in the same city as me.  I might have to use "Concord Computer Repair".  In any case if anyone has used local web site search optimization locally and its worked for you I would like to hear your story.  Look forward to any replies.  thanks in advance!

You have your address on the page in text, right? So when somebody searches for "computer repair Concord" it should be coming up already with no trouble. It is coming up, isn't it? Unless it's not in the index yet, or your town has a hundred other businesses like yours that have had an online presence longer? I'm hard put to imagine why it wouldn't naturally respond to such a narrowly precise search phrase.

The only thing I would add is to work those very important words into a header. Work nearby town names into the paragraph. Put your domain name on your vehicle too. Doesn't need to be very big to work well.

I can't say I know anybody personally who uses those directories; they'd rather use the Giggle. My impression of the MCircle was that it was a scraper site. I didn't think it looked very accurate for our locale. It was unintentionally amusing.
