I'm trying to generate a Google sitemap. Here's the output I get:

Reading configuration file: /home/thaif2/public_html/tft_config.xml
Walking DIRECTORY "/home/thaif2/public_html/"
Sorting and normalizing collected URLs.
Writing Sitemap file "/public_html/sitemap.xml.gz" with 991 URLs
[FATAL] Couldn't write out to file: /public_html/sitemap.xml.gz

Do I need to change permissions for the directory? How and where?

The permissions for my public_html folder, according to Interarchy (FTP program on the Mac) are:

rwxr-xr-x  (or 755 in LP jargon)

Change to what?

Should I change back when done?

You have the wrong path. Notice that you first have /home/thaif2/public_html/ and then for some reason are trying to write to /public_html/. That directory doesn't exist -- is it something you entered? Fix the path (add /home/thaif2 to it) and everything will be fine.
