In February, I created small, simple sites for two clients. One of them is just a home page and a contact page; I hadn't even included meta keywords or description because I was waiting for feedback from the client before finishing the site. It began showing up in search engines within a couple of weeks, without my doing anything. The other site, www.pvhardwoods.com, has a good meta description and keywords that are actually used on the page. I have used terms that people would be likely to search for in the text on the home page, but have not done anything to artificially populate the page with those terms. I have submitted it twice using LP's Simple Submission. Still, after all this time, the site has not been indexed by a single search engine, and my client is getting quite frustrated. We aren't trying to draw thousands of people to the site, but if someone searches for a product the client offers, it needs to show up in the results. Can anyone think of a reason why one site showed up right away, but the other is apparently not being found after four months? Thanks.

Is the one that is showing up more of a niche market? Less competition? Meta tags aren`t that important to search engines these days.

I do know that meta tags don't make so much difference any more -- I didn't use them at all on the first site and only added keywords to the second site after it hadn't been indexed in three months.
The first site is for a more specific market because it's a local business, so people would do a search for this particular type of business in this particular town. I know that helps in the search engine results.
What I don't understand, though, is why the other site hasn't been indexed at all by a single search engine after four months. It's not that it doesn't show up in the first couple of pages in search results -- it doesn't show up at all, anyplace. As I said, the text on the home page contains the terms that people would be most likely to search for, but I haven't padded the site in any way.

Hi cjh, Definitively you're right to be worried about indexing issue, four month it's too much time. You better take urgent actions. Subscribe to google webmasters tools and follow all they recommend. Like to submit a sitemap and create a robots.txt file. Just follow the tour: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tour/tour1.htmlThat might not solve your problem but will help you to find the problem. If the problem persist, post in this google group and you will find good hands to help you: http://groups.google.com/group/Google_Webmaster_Help-Indexing/topicsGood luck and hope you solve this problem soon!!

Get some decent quality links pointing to the site. Links are the key here.
I started a Lupe Fiasco blog (check my sig) and it got listen in Google within 1-2 days. I pointed a few links to it from my existing websites and that did the trick.
From what I've heard, Google requires at least one incoming link for websites to keep their listing.

Thanks, everyone, for your great suggestions. I especially appreciate the link to google webmaster tools, which I didn't even know about.

Also you have this:
<style type="text/css"> <!-- .style1 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: #666666; } --> </style> The element named above was found in a context where it is not allowed. This could mean that you have incorrectly nested elements -- such as a "style" element in the "body" section instead of inside "head".
I got it from validation, might be bots get confounded and skip your pages. Try to fix it as well.
Cheers!

Thanks, speculumcm. That style element was for a library item. I've deleted the library item altogether and the page validates without any errors now.

Thanks, speculumcm! Late last night, I googled their name and discovered that the site had finally been indexed -- fun to see it in Google Mexico, too! Thanks for taking such an interest in this.
I don't know if it was correcting the validation error or using Google Webmaster Tools, but something really worked fast. I very much appreciate the help offered by everyone here. My client is going to be very happy.

This is probably a noob kind of a question, but maybe someone can explain this to me: even though the site is now showing up in google search results, when I use LP's Indexed Pages Checker Tool, it still shows zero pages being indexed on all of the search engines, including google.
