Hi wsanders, The search engine submission tool on Cpanel is not up-to-date with recent submission urls. Unfortunately, as it is created by CPanel themselves, we do not have control over the links it uses or the script. I will note that it is always preferable to manually submit your site to the important engines. The few extra minutes spent doing that is worth the higher ranking you will get. Many search engines penalize for non manual submissions. If you read this entire thread and follow some of the suggestions and links, you will do fine for getting ranked, but it can take months. The very first place I suggest submitting to (if your site is fully completed) would be www.dmoz.org If you get into dmoz, you are guaranteed to do okay. I hope this helps.

One of the best ways to gets your site up in stats is to use Google Adwords. Those would be the adds that come up on the right hand side when you do searches. You set your own price you want to pay, can be very cheap. If you cancel after a month, your site is still registered with google. Also check out http://overture.com, another good site that also gives you a good description of how to write your meta info. And yes, DMOZ is the way to go. ryan.

If you go to the Tudogs site at http://www.tudogs.com/newuser.php?page=/promotion.php and enter your email address, you will be sent to a page where there is a program called "Senge." It has a nag screen that can be removed for $10, but free if you can put up with it. I find it isn't a problem. Anyway, the program lists many search engine addresses for manual submission and it works well. FYI Beware everywhere!

Hi
Yeah, use the google.com/addurl link as the others either cost you money or will be problems for you down the road from submit spam.
Don't use those 30,000 free submission email spams, nor use automated type sites that will submit to 300 search engines. Most don't work as 3/4 of the engines are wise to this and moved their submit pages.
Do it manually, I know takes time, but works. Also use TITLES, ALT tags and scramble a few key words in your page. Do NOT flood your web page with the key words, there is a balanced formula that will nix your entry if you do so.
My site is called tomax7.com and is a calgary web designer and microsoft trainer.
I've worked hard to get a pattern of how Google works and think I'm closer now.
Type in Google, "calgary microsoft trainer" or even "microsoft trainer" and see I"m #1,2, and 4. Along with "icefield helicopter tours" - more specific to travelers, but nevertheless #1, "christian newspaper" I'm #5, or even try my name "tom mclaughlin". "calgary web designer", I'm #2 whereas "calgary web designers" I'm listed with some of the top references, so key words are important.
So the secret is manually submit your site every month - 45 days, use keywords, and good description along with a descriptive TITLE and using ALT tags on all your pictures. Should you do this on every page in your site? YES.
Also have a lot of linking within your site. Links to other pages. Search engine Spyders like looking through about 5 page depth to the site and need the freedom to move. Good linking does this.
Have other sites link to yours. Do a search at least once a month on your site too. I don't do this, but you can ask friends to go to Google and do a search for your site.
cheers tom

I don't think anyone has mentioned Amazon's new search engine A9. Or course, being new A9 does not have the traffic of many of the other engines at the moment but with the Amazon sites all feeding it with traffic it will continue to grow pretty steadily.

looks good.. Manually submission outperforms automated submission on average. But no one can compare with the sheer numbers automated submission can submit to..

i didn't get anywhere when i first submitted to Google. yet i downloaded the taskbar thingy and used the voting button to vote for my own site. i'm not sure if it was that which made the difference because i also joined Zeal at the same time.
if anyone has a non-commercial site they want listing on Zeal (supplies its directories to LookSmart and MSN etc) then just send me a message and a URL.
also, apparently (i dunno if this is true) if a third-party site with a Google rating of 4 has a hyperlink to your site then Google automatically adds you to their database...

I tried many of the links in the original post. I was unable to get to the "free" posting location for either All the Web or Go Guides. In both cases the submsission required a payment.

I have an interesting question on submitting to search engines. I have a friend who has a business ... what's the best way for her to get top-listed on places like google and yahoo, etc.?
Thanks!

NEVER EVER go to http://www.worldwidepromoter.com/ They do not submit your site to ANY search engines and you will recieve TONS of spam soon after so call sumitting. To prove this go submit and you will see a box saying your site is being to summitted to such and such engine bla bla bla But look at the page resourses....that box is nothing but an iframe with refreshed pages with text. Trust me....you will never see any traffic come from there.
