Hah.... I just typed in "Best garden on the web" and found your site listed at #1! But I only find you as number one when I put the " " around the keywords.

Well, I didn't try that myself. Great, now if anyone actually types in exactly my site name as an absolute reference, then I will have hits. Doesn't do me much good, but it at least shows I am there, I guess. Thanks for checking it out. I would prefer to be ranked under iowa gardening, gardening in iowa, or any actual useful keywords instead, but I guess any listing is better than none at all.
Btw, I did go to DMOZ after I posted earlier and submitted my site. I will have to wait and see if they accept or reject it. I will post in the forum whatever they do so that other people can see how successful submitting to DMOZ might be for a new site (and webmaster). Anyway, I appreciate the time you have taken looking at my site, Google listing/ranking, etc. I think these forums are a really great asset to the LunarPages community.
Have a good evening

Not a problem. What you can do to get listed under words such as iowa gardening or gardening in iowa is to include those exact words on your website. Make a couple of sentences for example and use those words quite a bit. That should get you in, and if you could include those words in your site title, it would be even better.

Just checked that link, and now, it comes up with three items, Guess who the new page is Miraenda, looks like you're making it onto Google slowly but surely. Well done, Like the site by the way, haven't had much time to look around, but will check it all out soon.

Is there a way to submit to dogpile for free? I couldn't find a free submit but sometimes I'm a little blind. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply in August Coon. I hadn't looked at the forums for awhile, so this is a long belated thanks. Additionally, I said I would update everyone when I found out about my dmoz submission. I was accepted into dmoz a couple of weeks ago. It hasn't improved my Google ranking yet, but, strangely enough, my Adsense application from months ago was originally rejected, then right after the dmoz acceptance, I suddenly received an e-mail from Adsense telling me they had re-reviewed my application and were accepting me... My listing on dmoz can be found here in the Personal Pages section as well as under "best garden", "iowa garden", and probably some other keywords I haven't even tried. Thus, I am glad I took this thread up on the idea of submitting to the Open Directory. I hope it improves my Google rankings eventually. Have a great weekend!

No problem... give Google and other directories a bit more time to get the DMOZ information about your site. Soon enough you will see more links to your site and hopefully a better ranking in Google from that.

I have tried numerous times to get my site listed in DMOZ, but it has never been added. I am begining to wonder if the catagory editor has a vested interest in keeping my site off the directory... since none of the net's best political forums are in the politics chats and forums catagory, just a bunch of junk

Some editors are not active, like in my case. It completely makes me mad because it's just not fair to those of us that can't get our good sites listed.
Adrian, I used to post on a forum where there was an editor that kept track of the section where forums were. He used to be very active and got every single forum listed in DMOZ, but I don't know if he is still there. You might want to email DMOZ directly and tell them about possible editor inactivity. I think I will do that sometime soon.

Hi, Nice to meet you allscots and your interesting avatar choice. Many of the original sites noted have turned to paid submissions. Zeal and JoeAnt are 2 that don't require this, but you need to sign up to become an editor to submit sites to them (which isn't a bad deal actually). Dmoz is free, and the best one to get into ( www.dmoz.com ) as Google uses it for its indexing. After I got into dmoz, my placement in Google has skyrocketed. I hope this helps.
