It is always a good idea to keep your PC secure, so with that in mind - I started to make a list of some of the most often recommended anti-spyware and anti-virus software that is suggested time and time again. 

Why is it important to scan for spyware and viruses regularly?  You want to protect your computer from becoming infected and infecting others.  With some vulnerabilities like the Gumblar virus, your web site could even be effected if you are not protecting yourself.  You should also keep in mind that just because you have an anti-virus or anti-spyware program, it doesn't mean you can not be infected anyways.  (That will be another topic for another day.)

For Mac users there is ClamXAV which works very well.  It uses the tried, tested and very popular ClamAV open source antivirus engine as a back end. 

i personally suggest the 2.0beta as opposed to v1.1.1 - it's Leopard compatible.

My name is Jeff with SecureLive, one of my personal favorites is Kaspersky (http://usa.kaspersky.com/). Kaspersky does one major thing that others do not do nearly as well. I am a programmer plus SecureLive cleans up sites almost daily. Kaspersky has the ability to search your source code to look for root kits, base64(decode even if it is gzip inflated. It will find most of the hacks found in websites pretty quickly. This is not a 100% clean up job though as like ALL security software the back door still exists somewhere, so if you are needed to just clean up a site, then NO off the shelf security suite will do the job. If you need to clean up your computer, all most all of them are pretty equal. It is mostly the difference between a Ford and a Chevy.

I have been working with avira for a long time and I love it. I has great detection rates and low consumption of resources. And for internet protection I use Spyware terminator and a good firewall and that is all you need.

Nice anti virus programs you are shared, Norton has more virus definitions to deploy the virus in our computer machines.
