Hi All

I decided that this time I would use the CPanel Outlook Ecpress configurator.

The account it set - naming etc was not too my liking.  I have amended it as appropriate and tested it's in/out functioning AOK.

But having looked at the email.reg file I see it has left a legacy of a Reg key.  Is this needed now and can I remove it?

I assume that when you set OE accounts a registry entry is made that controls the Windows Application Data/Identities but the path to this one is interesting and if it is a "single use" key that structures the account can it be removed because as I said I have already altered the settings satisfactorily.

Can this key be deleted safely?  I like to maintain a tidy system as best I can = greater stability etc  :!:

If you downloaded the auto config file instead of 'opening' it, yes you can delete the registry  file you downloaded.

Hi TWebman

I am refering to the Registry Key it creates when it is run as per the CPanel instructions not the email.reg file itself.

That is can I "regedit" and remove that specific key

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\OMI Account Manager\Accounts\

Thanks

PS As you are looking at the forum tonight have had a chance to re look at my thread about jpeg and wmv database applications?

The registry is where your account is defined.  Removing the key itself will very likely render the account useless.

I'll take a look at the other thread (haven't seen new post icons)

Yep, I would surmise that removing the key might affect the account, unless it is a run once type key because as I remark above the key is a little unusual compared to what/where I thought OE accounts are "created".

I look forward to your feedback on the other thread.  http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5906

If it's a runonce, i'd let the system remove it on reboot.  if it's not gone then yeah i'd see no problem with removing it.

probably there for backwards compat.

What forum is that topic in?  Very Happy

I have put a link above and here http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5906

In respect of the reg key I think I will leave it until I have the chance to do a reg scan and see if it gets identified an orphan key i.e. no linked function.

As I say I like to keep things lean and clean where ever I can.

Yeah I like to keep my reg tidy (along with prefetch and the browser cache).

Use regcleaner?

I think Microsoft has a problem with interpreting the meaning of a byte, or with counting.  I set disk cache as low as it will go (1MB - no zero available Sad )
But it seems they think 1 means like 10 or 80 or 200.  hmmm.

My first port of call will be Clean Sweep and it's reg clean option.

I have used MS Regcleaner for a while now!
