I've been scouring the forums for all information related to password protecting directories but still not having any luck.  So I have mydomain.com as well as subdomain.mydomain.com.  Mydomain.com is not password protected and redirects to a Wordpress site.  Subdomain.mydomain.com was created as basically file storage (all I do is ftp files to and from it), so I don't want public access to it.  Before doing this, I read that Frontpage extensions had to be uninstalled for this subdomain which they are.  But when I try to create the password protected directory (which is a simple process to follow), I still don't get prompted for a password.

I've tried selecting Web Root and Document Root for subdomain.mydomain.com.  With both, I'm going into the public_html folder and selecting the folder under it which corresponds to subdomain.   I check the box for "Password protect this directory", Name the directory, create the users, etc.  Doesn't work.

I know I must be missing something obvious....any ideas?
