Hello,
I'm new the the vps server scene, and trying to figure out the nameserver issue.
In the email it says..

"We have already installed and configured nameservers on your new VPS machine, but it is your responsibility to ensure that your nameservers are registered properly. In order to use your nameservers, you must register at your registrar. This is not the same as updating the nameservers for your domain. Once your nameservers are registered you may update your domains listed nameservers to point to your own."

I tried registering the name server at moniker and it gave an error that its unable to pull from the database.
I checked the server and the dns client service is running. I did a netstat -a  and didn't see dns listening on port 53.. Am I missing something here?
Do I need to install a dns server?
Thanks.

I am afraid this is a topic we may not be able to help you with here on the forums.  I would recommend contacting vps@lunarpages.com to talk with the Lunarpages support team about this issue.  If you have any questions on how best to use these forums please see the green forum rules link in my signature.

OK, got it. Thanks for the response. I had Plesk installed, and it made dns management much easier.
Support has been great!  Thumbs Up

sounds like it is a bit easier to manage dns admin in plesk than Cpanel ?

would I be right in this assumption ?

also on the subject of VPN and DNS servers - what would the lunarpages reccomendation eb for running dns servers on VPN machines ?

I can't say it is more complicated to manage DNS records in Plesk than in cPanel. They just use different approaches to the domain zone view. In cPanel you get the zone looking almost like its file in the Bind configuration. In Plesk you just have a table with zone records to edit.

I would use only a caching DNS server installed on VPS for VPN clients in such situation.

I didn't have Cpanel installed. I was trying to point a similar name domain to the server (error #1  Doh). I believe it failed cause I didn't have Plesk installed to host multiple domains (error #2).
So I had it installed and am able to resolve multiple domains (up to service plan) to the server now  Clapping .

I'd have to look at Cpanel again, but to me its looks like Plesk operates at an enterprise level. So it can be a little intimidating at first.
Not saying its harder, just different.
Example, and correct me if it is in Cpanel..
For domains, In Plesk you can create client(s), and under each client you/they can create domain(s).
If I recall in Cpanel, you only create domains for whom you're logged in under(?) No option to create clients etc..

Likewise, in cPanel, you can create reseller accounts which are able to create other accounts.
