OK my vps is set up I think. I got cpanel because I thought it would be similar to shared.

It might not be:

I log into my account.

I click on control panel, it goes to the cpanel section. This works as normal

Then I click on the final cpanel tab. I then get an error message this page can not be displayed. I get the feeling there is something very simple I am not doing. What could it be.

this is truely strange, my pages still seem to work, oops I think I broke the internet... sorry  Surprised

Hello,

Unfortunately, control panel login through CAP does not work for VPS customers yet due to different control panels which may be installed as well as different cpanel access ways for administrator's WHM and domain's cPanel. Please use the following URL to login to cPanel at your VPS server:

https://vps.ip.address:2083 (cPanel secure access)
https://vps.ip.address:2087 (WHM secure access. You need to use "root" as  the username and the root's password from your welcome email to login here)

As for your pages, your site is till pointed to lunarpages' nameservers and thus is being pulled up from your old shared server still. To point the site to the new location, please login to cPanel on VPS, check that everything were moved other, register your private nameservers as per instructions in the welcome email and then configure private nameservers for your domain.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I thought there must be something different.

what in the url posted do I change to go to the disired place? I still get an error when I click on them. I tried changing various things, and still no luck.

BTW I didn't get a welcome email. I just got an invoice.

I also have a trouble ticket on this. its number is 8226-MCAF-7660

WOW someone seems upset about working Sunday.

I just had an odd experience with phone support (at about 1:30pm cali time). I called to asked about how to set name servers.  I tried to use the ones registered with someone else. But the directions given in this forum are not accurate, maybe because the registrar in question has changed the design of the site and its very bad design. Their help section wasn’t much help either.

I then asked support how would I use the domain I have registered with lunar as a nameserver.

The person replied that he was unsure if what I said was even a complete sentence.

I simplified and repeated and simplified the request.

He then very rapidly gave a response. I was trying to comply and he asked if I was even trying to follow what he said.

Then we “lost the phone connection” and no I did not hang up.

BTW, I did go to the domain in question and tried to follow from memory what was said. It didn’t work.

I’ve at this for four hours, I think I need a break, I am still in shock every other time when I have called support they have ALWAYS been polite and helpful to an extreme.

Can’t log into the new CP can’t change a name server.

Ba ha ha ha “their coming to take me away ha ha!”

Hello akchuck1960:

Maybe I can help in getting the name servers set up.

If the domain name in question is trucidodolusloricaproject.com go to the domain name registrar and login. Once logged in go to the My Domains section and click on that domain name. On the next screen scroll down a bit, on the left hand side there should be an option that says 'View/Modify Detail' under the 'Host Summary' Section. On the next page you will enter the IP address you were given for your VPS in the 1st and 2nd lines for the Ip address section. On lines 1 and 2 for the Host name section you can enter NS1 or NS2 or whatever you want (I recommend NS1 and NS2 because it's easier to remember). Click Ok and it will go ahead and update that information (the changes may take 48 hours or so to update).

The rest of the setup process will be done via SSH and Cpanel. The specific instructions for that can be found at http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=26132.0

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your response.

I went to the registrar in question logged in and did everything you said, I clicked on the domain name and couldn’t find the “'Host Summary' Section”. I clicked on the only link that had host on it and it asked about my hosting account, I don’t host with them. I tried changing the nameservers, I click on every link and re logged in several times going step by step with both sets of directions both here and the registrars, nada. I then tried just taking wild guesses, nada. I remember the site in question use to have a set up like the one mentioned in the forum. But I guess they figured it was too easy, people like me just came did what we had to and left. They want us to click every possible like and spend three hours on their site. So I guess I have to wait 24 hours to get a response from the registrar in question.

[edit]

after 11 hours I have the name servers set. I don't know how I did it, but I got an email saying they are set.

I am assuming once my nameserver do their thing the rest like changing the others servers and
loging into CP will also fall into place

An Update or confirmation.

I received an email from the service which are suppose to be the registrar of my name server it said “Dear Registration Private, The registration of NS1.TRUCIDODOLUSLORICAPROJECT.COM. TRUCIDODOLUSLORICAPROJECT.COM has succeeded.” Changes may take 24-48 hours to be visible on the Internet.

I figured great I was finally successful! Though it not 48 hours I have been checking both the domain TRUCIDODOLUSLORICAPROJECT.COM. and the IP given to me by lunar and both come back to lunar. I thought that when the nameserver works it should be changed to “ NS1.TRUCIDODOLUSLORICAPROJECT.COM ” I am also figuring that when this changes I will also be able to log onto cpanel.

Before the end of the 48 hours can someone confirm is my logic correct?

Hello,

Unfortunately, I am not showing that your name servers have appeared in the whois database yet:

http://reports.internic.net/cgi/whois?whois_nic=NS1.TRUCIDODOLUSLORICAPROJECT.COM&type=nameserver

After they are added and visible via whois, you will need to point your domain to them at the regarstar of the domain, i.e. put them instead of lunarpages nameservers. Name server registration does not mean that registered name servers are automatically set as domain name servers.

Finally, please feel free to visit our live chat support at http://dedicated@lunarpages.com for any assistance with problems and questions related to your VPS or dedicated plan and server.

I hope this is helpful.

An update, last night I contacted the registrar of my name server. I tried earlier but they refused to answer a question until the 48 hour time limit was up.

They said I made a simple and honest error in the registration process. Something if they had even glanced at the registration they would have caught.

OK I made a mistake because I didn’t understand something. But even looking it over now I could see how anyone could make it when they are NEW to something. So couldn’t the service also share part of the blame for

Having a site that is in my opinion a usability nightmare.

Not understanding that some of us are completely new to this process.

Not checking my input as they could, to be assured I didn’t make a simple error.

I also note their email claimed my registration was a success, should that happen if I input I gave was in error?

At any rate they did check my input this time and they claimed it is now correct. So in twelve to 36 hours my nameservers should show

Thanks for the link to dedicated chat. I will use in when everything is online with my site.

The one thing I can say is I have had it reimpressed on how important site usability is.

Well after a chat with dedicated chat, I have finally gained access to cpanel, and my nameservers are correct. Tech support gave me a different url and did something with my account.  Very Happy

Just one more domain to switch, and I have to find out why my cp doesn’t have a SSH Icon. Then finishing the rest of the process. I should be finished! I have a trouble ticket on the last two because open srs will not accept my password.

Just what could be my final question  Happy Happy Joy Joy

Do I have to do the above? I understand its part of the nameserver process. I THINK this part of the process was done for me by lunar when I got the package. My new nameserver seems to be working as my are all my domains.

Would I only have to follow this step when I change my name server? I am just trying to remove what may be an unneeded step.

akchuck1960,

It may have already been setup for you. If the name servers are working for you right now, then you don't need/shouldn't have to do it.

Glad to hear it's working for you and let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks!!

woo hoo I am finished! I am actually really happy with the VPS package. I logged into WHM yesterday and felt over whelmed. the dedicated chat people are/were awesome. Dedicated chat really is a helpful tool that in itself  is worth the amount more I am paying! Other support is good its just great to have that resource.  Very Happy
