Upgrading Plesk version
«

I have 8.1.0, An admin said upgrading would make things run faster.
Now, I've spent a lot of time configuring stuff on my server. Would upgrading Plesk force things to break and I'd have to go through remodifying the files again?

Hello,
Unfortunately, there are known occurrences when Plesk upgrades were unsuccessful, so I would highly recommend to backup all your data/changes before doing it. Those occurrences are rare but anyway backups could be helpful. As for the files you modified, all depends if they are the ones that being adjusted during Plesk install or not. For the first case, Plesk may try to re-write them.

Thanks. Is it really that much faster? I find it curious since Plesk is just a control panel for web admins but it would also make the website run faster.

I agree with you. Usually the main purpose of releasing a new version of Control Panel is to fix bugs and add new features. This shouldn't affect the website performance notably.

How do you go about upgrading Plesk? I currently have version 7.6.1 I believe. Main reason is I want to upload and extract a .zip file to install Joomla!

Hi rbc303,
To upgrade, you can contact the support and ask to apply to your VPS one of newer application templates that contains more recent version of Plesk. Please ensure you backup your current Plesk configuration and data, just incase something goes wrong.
