I am on vps9 and whenever I attempt to reboot (both via PLESK and command line), the system craps out.  The dedicated admin says that my "IP went down" and they had to manually
"restart network services (I imagine through the Virtuozzo admin panel)."

This is the second time that it's happened.  I thought the beauty of admining your own server/vps was the ability to restart the server when you want.

I've sent in a support ticket. (8607-ISLN-9024)

Is there any other advice my fellow VPSers can offer?  Does anyone else have trouble when entering "reboot" into the command line?  Is there anyone else here on VPS9?

Thanks...

Hi Howardhsu,

Unfortunately, this is an issue of Virtuozzo running on the server with two network interfaces. VPS can't bind the correct interface on boot occasionally and thus becomes unresponsive. We contaced SWSoft who developed Virtuozzo about this problem and they confirmed it. Hopefully, this behavior will be fixed in the future releases.

If you look back to previous topics on this board, you'll find that this issue is not related only to your hardware node or VPS. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation may be causing.

I hope this is helpful.

perestrelka,

thanks for the explanation.  yesterday was the perfect example of that.  i was down for 2 hours.

also, i tried phone support, but apparently it is only available for customers with shared hosting plans.  what are my other options if nobody is responding to my support ticket?

also, on https://desk.lunarpages.com/faq.php?do=article&articleid=1090 , you list the server specs as: "Our VPS all run on dual Xeon 3.0 GHz processors with 8 Gigs of RAM and SCSI RAID 5 disk subsystem."  however, the server i am on lists a single "GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Xeon(R)CPU 5130 @ 2.00GHz."

is vps9 due for an upgrade?

thanks.

Greetings,

That's true, the phone support is mainly for shared plans and billing questions because only professional sysadmins can deal with dedicated and VPS issues and questions.

Typically, it is a matter of 5-10 minutes to issue a manual restart of VPS server, if there is no an emergency requiring attention of all senior administrators.  Until the problem with wrong interface binding on startup is rectified, please feel free to pm me here, if it takes more than 15 minutes to perform the reboot request via the chat, and the reason of the delayed reboot will be discussed with the person who handled the chat session.

As for the CPU specs, the article has been a bit outdated, because new VPS servers use new processors. These processors deliver the same performance as old ones working with reduced clock speed. However, I found it really strange that only 2 CPUs are listed under the server specs. This will be investigated.

Please advice if you have any additional questions.

I'm on VPS9 as well. It appears VPS9 was moved to a new server on March 23. So from perestrelka's comments it should be running on a stable, fairly new machine.

Thankfully, I haven't had to reboot recently so I can't confirm/deny the same issues you are experiencing.
