I'm having a heck of a time here on this VPS. Our website (wcmessenger.com) is constantly going down. This morning it has happened again; I can ping the address, email works, I can get into Plesk, but ALL of the sites hosted there are currently down ("The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" in Firefox). I have gone into Plesk and shut down Apache, waited several minutes, and started it again, all to no avail. I have tried this at least 10 times now. I even went so far as to reboot the server via Plesk. No change.

This happened to us last month also. Support emailed me back the next day, but by then the issue had resolved itself (after two hours of down time). When I called support, they said they had a tech on it and that he would let me know what was going on. No reply.

Could this be just a bum machine or something? What in the world am I doing wrong here?

HI adredd,

I've asked one of our VPS admins to look into this for you.  He should be contacting you via email and on here once he's had a chance to check into this further.

Thanks.

Thanks Danielle. My main concern here is that we're a newspaper website, and just so happens that this a.m. we have some massive breaking news going on. As I recall, the last time this happened there was also some big breaking news. I wonder if we're just getting too many hits?

Possible.  I just get the "The server at wcmessenger.com is taking too long to respond." message when I try.  (one of the possible reasons could be The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy.)

Aren't there some stats you can check in plesk to see how much cpu you are currently using when this happens.  If you are maxing it out then that may be the reason.

CPU usage shows:

Last 1 minute     1.13
Last 5 minutes    0.59
Last 15 minutes    0.29

Doesn't seem like much to me. Thanks!

Hi adredd,

Please try your site now, I believe it should be much more responsive. It would appear it was the increase in site traffic that was causing the site to become unresponsive. The default Plesk Apache configuration file sets a ServerLimit and MaxClients value of 10, which is somewhat low for a site with moderate traffic. I have increased this to 100 and your site has been loading quickly and without error for the past 10 minutes. Also, there were some updates available for Plesk which I have applied.

If you encounter any further issues please be sure to submit a trouble ticket to vps@lunarpages.com for VPS accounts so that we can promptly investigate. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank You!

Karapoto,

Your site is loading just fine here. If you're still unable to access your site, you may want to try and run a trace route from your system to your site and see if a hop is having an issue between you and the server.

Karapoto,

If you're noticing a lot of downtime with your VPS, please e-mail vps@lunarpages.com so one of our technicians can look into the issue.

I moved your ticket on our support desk to the VPS desk so it can get to the right department faster. Also, an administrator is working on the VPS server right now.

Thanks.

Hi Viktor,

The forum isn't official support. Please go to http://dedicated@lunarpages.com/ and speak with someone there about this issue. VPS and dedicated customers have 3 options for official support: dedicatedchat (24/7/365 available for use), email (vps@lunarpages.com for VPS; dedicated@lunarpages.com for dedicated), or calling us. Please use the live support so we can officially assist.

Thanks.

Hello,

my site is going down when I have a lot of visitor.
When my phpbb forum have more than 50 users, it begin to load slowly and if the number of users increase, all my websites are going down for three hours.

My main website is live-foot.com (but the adress of my forum is www.live-foot-forum.be/forum ), and my vps is 209.200.248.65.

Kyle_H, could you please increase the value of ServerLimit and MaxClients of my hosting ?

Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english.

Vita.
