Didn't get the answers to my questions via billing@lp, and support@lp was even less helpful.. so I'll ask here. I'm thinking of moving 3 or 4 sites currently on basic plans to Linux VPS.

Questions:
  • As it comes with 1 dedicated ip, is the cost of additional dedicated ip's (say 3 extra) the same as with basic plan dedicated ip cost, equating to 3 x whatever?
your info page says it comes with root, SSH and shell access. Does this mean I am able to edit (for example) the php parameters, say setting the zend stuff off, memory_limit = 100M, etc, etc? Plus I would have full access to the mysql databases (so I don't have to rely on phpmyadmin)?

Thanks.

Hello,

The best way to ensure you get a speedy response would be to email directly the VPS support team, at vps@lunarpages.com.

Yes, yes and... yes. You will be able to edit whatever settings you need, no matter if its on apache's httpd.conf or the php.ini file. You will, of course, also have root access over your mysql database.

Thank you.

Well I've signed up for VPS, but I fear it's going to turn into a giant mess. The problem with Lunarpages is that you never really know who your dealing with as your emails to vps@lp get bounced all over the place with replies from billing@ and support@.

Problems started this morning. I receive an email advising that the VPS has been installed, dedicated ip address. What concerned me is the note advising that the old site (basic plan) was scheduled for removal. As I'm 5 hours behind and the email had been sent 10 hours earlier!

So attempting to login with details supplied (VPS welcome email provided with the same username and password and dedicated ip as my original account), I am now faced with a Plesk radio button. This brings up a page not found. So I ftp to the site and find nothing has been changed. Site is still as it was (public_html, etc.

So now I wait for my site to disappear?

Why was a new account (VPS) not set up to allow a transition accross to the new account? I have 3 sites to move to VPS.. are they all going to dissappear?

This is nuts. Oh and live chat is just an email link.. a new support tkt issued.. ugg!

Excuse this double post, was originally in the pre-sales section..

So now I wait for my site to disappear?

Why was a new account (VPS) not set up to allow a transition across to the new account? I have 3 sites to move to VPS.. are they all going to dissappear?

This is nuts. Oh and live chat is just an email link.. a new support tkt issued.. ugg!

As a precaution I moved the contents of the account scheduled for removal (the one which VPS is supposed to be installed on, but isn't) to another account (also LP), using htaccess rewrite.. pointing the DNS to this ip address. This is working.. but I am concerned that, as mentioned above, all my LP accounts are going to get zapped.

Who do I call/ email? I really can't just sit here without knowing what is happening.  Thanks for anyone who can assist.

<rant mode on>I might as well just go home for a few hours until support, vps, billing or whoever I'm lucky enough to respond fixes the current setup. Currently the state of affairs is this: advice an hour ago that the correct ip is something completely different to what the welcome email advised. So I can now ftp, jump and down with joy.. I can set up the domains.. But Now the issue is I have been apparently been allocated one ip address only, although I requested 5. So what the hell do I do for DNS for the five domains? Am I missing something here.. if I am, please let me know.

Note: the tkt system??? I hate it... everybody does.. long gone are days when a reply from the likes of Amy would be done within 10 minutes.</rant mode off>

I am sorry to hear you are having issues.  Could you give us your help desk ticket number so that we can look into things for you here to make sure all is going well and as it should?  I am also merging and moving your post to our VPS section so that our VPS gurus can have a look at your situation.  Thanks!

The only real problem is the way the tickets are handled. By emailing vps@LP replies came from both billing and support. This created the problem of two different (I believe) support staff answering and giving conflicting info, and each was not aware of what was requested.

When I went into live chat, the form sent request via email to support, thus creating a new ticket.

Ideally, all VPS current issues should be under the same ticket. Even better is a dedicated VPS or dedicated hosting ticket system.

Once I received a reply from the original admin handling the original ticket, everything was corrected quite quickly, unfortuantely it did take a full day to get there.

Things are fine now, except for my shopping cart.. but this is nothing to do with support, just something I've set incorrectly.. file permissions.. cache.. ugg.. will eventually figure it out.

Thanks.

Happy to hear things are going better.  As for your suggestions, I would highly suggest e-mailing them to feedback@lunarpages.com.  That way it would be something the "higher ups" would see too.  Thanks!

Just when you think its all running ok.. I get this in my email this morning (sent 5 hours ago): Note: some of my sites are down, resolving to the plesk error page not found.. I have to hunt through to find which ip's have been removed, go to my DNS hosting service and change settings to the old sites (shared), then getting an email from support (sent 3 hours ago) asking when they remove the old shared accounts.

Re: [Lunardesk] [JBQH6556RGC2] VPS Hosting Account

---- TECH RESPONSE STARTS HERE ----

Hi,
Unfortunately it appears that you were assigned some IPs that belonged to other customers. I have been forced to remove the extra addresses as these were causing other systems to experience issues. I have requested a new set of IP addresses for your server and will update you as soon as possible to let you know what they are.

My apologies for the issues.

Re: [Lunardesk] [DRMJ6836RTQ1] VPS

Hello,

Please verify when all files have been moved from your shared accounts to the newly purchased VPS account. Once you verify this information we can proceed with canceling the two accounts (names removed)and issuing you a prorated refund for any time remaining on these plans.

Please verify when ready to proceed with the cancellation of the shared plans.

etc..

As mentioned earlier some of these sites take days to fully propogate.. we are five hours behind LA time and I really hoped to finish early today.

This is getting seriously ridiculous.

Things have settled down a bit.. everything appears to working.. leave it for a day longer before I move all my sites to VPS, at least the main ones are up and running.

Hi,

I hope all goes well for you now. Please note that your sites can stay longer on the shared servers if you need some more time for the migration. Just drop a email about that to the support.
