Can anyone tell me about it?Ive had this thing in my machine several times without accepting to download it anywhere.Yet the bloody crap shows up!

It wants to connect with the internet but is of course stopped by Zone alarm. Each time it shows its face Explorer start behaving strange.....

Just what info does it try to send and recieve and how is it possible that it can be a legal way of working with publicity or whatever it does?

I have heard that they aren't very good. Personally, I have not used the program, but I hard that it comes with some other software. Not exactly sure which software it is or what download you might have gotten it from, but I know that it has a lot of little peaces to it, which makes it hard to remove from your computer.

I'll let you know more if I find anything out.
BTW, how does this go in this section of the forum?

This section??Hmmm well i went to their homepage and they claim Gator is some sort of affiliate stuff in some mysterious way.....Maybe it should have neen posted under security but then Gator wouldnt approve he he....

I have discovered Gator several times with Adaware and it installs stuff and adds to the registry......

Heres a link with more info. Gator and Trickler stuff

Sent a mail to Gator.com asking them what their stuff does in my computer and how it got there and what information it wants to send when it tries to pass Zone alarm and reach the net.

Not expecting a reply though.

I will move this to the Security forum for you. You will probably get more replies there.

Yes, after installing Gator or other file sharing programs, check what is running in the background (by doing Ctrl Alt and Delete)

If you see anything new, look it up on www.altavista.com (sometimes typing .exe at the end will give better results)

Some of these file sharing programs install spy programs and other things you really don't want!

I know kazaa used to install it.  Quite a few progs do.  Hmm...I know it also came with gmax, and many many more.  Some of them install gator without even asking or telling you about it...I have uninstalled gator b4, when it happened tho, and I think I was just able to go under control panel and remove it.  I guess they must have lots of money to burn, since it's popping up everywhere.

Well the funny thing is that this (and probably many similar things) act as regular trojans.

No more no less.

If you trace someone placing a trojan in your computer he can be put to justice.

Not in this case.Strange...........

They dont even need to tell about what info they take from your machine.

At least theoretically they could log practically anything.......

But then maybe that is a part of freedom of speech.....

Btw.Never had a reply from them on my mail.

You can get rid of it and bucketloads of similar stuff with an app called AdAware by a company called Lavasoft. Its freee and works.

One of these spyware companys are about to sue Lavasoft for making it possible for people to remove spyware easily..  "[freak]"
