Hello,

Can someone please let me know if it’s possible to use my Gmail as my web-based email client (instead of using Horde or Squirrelmail)?  If it’s possible, how do I set it up in the cPanel and my Gmail account setting?

Thanks a lot Smile

There's more than one way. The way I do is using Google Apps for my domain. That entails moving the email handling to Gmail.

The other way I can think of, and that a lot of people use, entails keeping mail at LP and forwarding it to a Gmail account.

Or you can use Gmail to fetch LP mail via POP.

With the latter two options, if you want to send from your domain email address, Outlook users will see this:
From: username@gmail.com on behalf of Your Name [user@domain.com]

Which would be your preferred method? Are there any other requirements? This would affect the answer to your question.

Hello TranzDance,

Thanks for the answer   Smiling

Frankly, I prefer the second option.  But, is it possible to not only forward emails to my Gmail, but also reply and send emails from Gmail with my domain-email-address showing as sender?

And, if you don’t mind, can you please go into a little bit details on how to use Gmail to fetch LP mail via POP?

Thanks a lot Smile

Yes, you can forward email in cpanel / Mail / Forwarders

Here's info on how to reply from Gmail with a different address: https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&hl=en&answer=22370

Here's how to fetch mail: https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&hl=en&answer=21288

I merged the two threads so you could keep things together concerning this topic. Like Tranz said, this should help keep extra work to a minimum. Wink

Now that I see this in the "light of day" and after some coffee, it makes better sense to just modify the thread instead of merging it like I did last night. Thanks Tranz, was a bit too tired last night and didn't catch my error. Smile

Glad things were resolved too.

I know it's not an issue for the OP but thought I'd throw this out.

If you want to send from Gmail and make it appear it's from your site you can.  There's a way in Gmail to fire an email to your LP address (one time only) and if you validate the request then GMail will allow you to send as if from that address.  On the surface it seems like it came from the LP address.  If they dig and know what they are looking at they can tell it came from Gmail on behalf of your LP address.

Hope it helps someone reading this thread later!

Deverill, thanks a lot for the additional note  Very Happy

However, I'm just curious--how would anyone find out where the email is sending from, besides looking at the sender field?
