MICROSOFT REPLACES FLAWED PATCH
Microsoft Tuesday released a corrected Universal Plug and Play (UpnP)
patch for Windows XP, which replaces a flawed security patch that caused
some systems to crash or stop functioning properly. Microsoft patch
MS01-054--Invalid UPnP Request can Disrupt System Operation--was issued
Nov. 1 to address a vulnerability in Windows 98/ME/XP that can allow a
denial of service. The ME patch was pulled by Microsoft after users
reported a degradation in performance on some systems. The UPnP service
allows computers to discover and use network-based devices.
