I've hosted my personal site on Lunarpages for about a year-and-a-half.  I'm thinking of moving an organization I am a member of to a brand new web site under a new account here (I'd rather keep this account and my personal account separate).

This might be a question that be a question that both employees and non-employees could advise me on, so here goes...

We need to have two web sites.  One of them is your standard, open-to-the-public, informational website.  The other is one that needs to be closed to the public and is where organization members discuss administrative issues (I'll be setting up a discussion board for that) and collaboratively produce content (I'll probably set up a wiki for that).  It is EXTREMELY vital that the public is not aware of the private site.  The way I can see it, I can setup one site and use either an add-on domain or subdomain or I can setup two separate accounts.  My question is basically:  is there going to be a significant enough difference in strength of security to make starting two accounts on two separate IP addresses with two separate domains worth the investment?  Or is that just overkill?  Or is there another solution that might be useful for this situation?

Thanks ahead of time for any input.

I'm not a security expert by any means, but have the same situation. I do a site for a non-profit, and we have a separate area for board members, that we do not want the public to see. We set it up as a password-protected subdomain, and it's worked very well for the year or so we've had it.

Yeah right now, I would say you would be fine by using some script or service that would allow you to only allow members to access it or doing a password protection for the folder you are hosting it under.  Hope that helps!

Thanks cjh and Mitch. I'll just setup one new account once I arrange to get a couple of domains transferred from another owner.
