Was brought here by the number of positive reviews I've found, but unfortunately I just registered a domain with the other hosting company (then read about all the horrible reviews.. there's just so many of them). I believe they have some sort of 5 day refund policy but whether that is held up isn't known. I also just read up on the 60 day no-transfer policy they have, so I assume I won't be able to transfer the domain before 60 days, and have heard that transferring from them is a big pain.

Anyways, I'd like to retain the domain name and have LP be the registar of it (and also host here). The refund money from the other hosting company would go here (so I don't waste the 20 bucks I spent for 2 years registration), which is why I'm looking to well, refund. Do you guys know if I cancel and refund the other hosting company, will the domain be publicly up for grabs? And if so how long would it take for it to show as an unregistered domain (and if the other hosting company won't just retain it as one of their domains). Or would it just be best to forfeit the 20 bucks refund money, play it safe and transfer here after 60 days?

Thanks.

(p.s. why are "ther hosting companies" renamed/censored? the company in question is hint, the biggest one(or so I've heard?) out there that starts with a G)

Well, if you refund the domain and it's no longer yours then it's definately will be up for grabs.

Yeah might ask them if there is anyway they would let you transfer the domain name elsewhere, that would be your best bet.  Waiting it out might take a long while and you always risk somebody beating you to it even when it opens back up to the public.
