I currently don't have a website, but am looking to get one. I want to get hosted here, but I would like to clear up a few questions I have regarding web hosting and domain registration. If I sign up for a basic plan and register a new domain name here (via Tucows, I believe?), do I own the domain name, or does LunarPages own it? Also, if I decide to go with another web host provider, can I freely take the domain name with me? What strings would be attached if I cancel my hosting services early? For example, if I sign up for a one-year plan, and 8 months later decide to go with someone else, can I freely take my domain name with me, or is it locked by LunarPages for the duration of the year?

Related to this, is there a "control panel" for the domain name and one for the website, or is it a one-control-panel-for-all deal?

Also, if I sign up for a one-year plan, can I pay on a month-by-month basis after the one year, or is it another one-year charge at the beginning of the year? I'm also assuming this would cover payment for both the domain name and the web hosting....

And finally, I saw an earlier post regarding someone who needed to send in a photo ID before the site was activated. Is this required for all new activation? What information / paperwork is necessary? How long is it usually before I finish the online sign-up process and the time when the website becomes active?

Yes you can register it through Lunarpages when signing up (you won it) or you can register it elsewhere then just point the domain to your account here using our namerservers. Yes, you can take the domain name with your when you leave. If you sign up for a 12 month plan, all fees are due at signup.

Normally a photo ID is not needed unless there are discrepancies in the account information when signing up.
